Battle of Antietam
The Battle of Antietam occurred on September 17,1862; The battle lasted 8 hours and 21,000 people died. The Confederate Army General was Robert E. Lee and the Union's Army General was George McClellan. This battle is significant to the US, because it was the bloodiest single day battle in all of American History. There was many strategies used in this war... The Unions' strategy was the "Anaconda Plan" while the Confederates' was to Invade the North/Unions land. This war would lead to Union President Abraham Lincoln reciting his Emancipation Proclamation.
Battle of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg occurred on the first three days of July ( July 1-3 ). The General for the Confederate Army was Robert E. Lee and the Union's General was George G. Meade. The strategy that Lee used was to defend the Confederates' land and break the Unions' will to fight. The reason this battle is so important in American History, was because it was the downfall of the Civil War, it was also because it allowed the Union's President Abraham Lincoln to redefine the view of America and make the war about slavery with The Gettysburg Address
Battle of Vicksburg
This Battle occurred May 18-July 4,1863 ; The Union Commander was Ulysses S. Grant and the Confederate General was John C. Pemberton. Grant's strategy was the "Anaconda Plan" and Pemberton's strategy was to defend South's land. This battle was important, because it determined who would gain control over the Mississippi River. The War is coming to end.
