This is our school's way of honoring the Maryland Patriot Guard and the other brave veterans in our community. There will be honored guests in attendance from the MD Patriot Guard and our school community. We would like to honor any of our families with members currently serving or who have previously served in the armed forces.
If you will be participating in our school Veterans Day celebration, please complete the survey below and click the SUBMIT button when finished.

LES School Improvement Plan
Did you know that we have a school improvement plan at Lisbon? Continuous school improvement is essential to creating an effective educational learning environment for our students. Each year, various forms of data are used to create, monitor, and evaluate our school improvement plan. Additionally, target areas are established to provide benchmarks for student achievement and growth. Our plan also outlines action steps we use to accomplish our goals for the year. Here at Lisbon, we are always striving to improve our learning environment. We regularly meet to ensure that our staff and community are aware of our learning and behavioral goals that we have developed. In addition to our school improvement plan, PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) strategies are used to improve the educational setting and environment so children can learn in a positive environment. A copy of our School Improvement Plan Snapshot is available here.
Social Emotional Learning
One of our primary goals each day is to enhance the sense of community among the students and teacher in each class. Morning Meeting is an engaging way to start each day, build a strong sense of community, and set children up for success socially and academically. Each morning, students and teachers gather together in a circle for about 10 minutes with one another during four purposeful components:
- Greeting: Students and teachers greet one other by name.
- Sharing: Students share information about important events in their lives. Listeners often offer empathetic comments or ask clarifying questions.
- Group Activity: Everyone participates in a brief, lively activity that fosters group cohesion and helps students practice social and academic skills (for example, reciting a poem, dancing, singing, or playing a game).
We are excited to bring the Morning Meeting to our classrooms! Talk with your child/children to learn about how these meetings are impacting their school experience!

Young Authors' Contest
Join in the Lisbon Elementary 16th Annual Young Authors’ Contest! Maryland students in grades 2 through 5 are eligible to enter an original short story and/or poem. First place and Honorable Mention winners will be selected for each grade, and our 1st place winners will go on to be judged at the county and possibly the state level. Each entry may have only one author. A cover sheet, signed by a parent and teacher, is needed for each entry. Both the entry and cover sheet should be saved as a Word document, typed in either Times Roman or Comic Sans 12- point font. Please include your name on the cover sheet not the entry. More information and necessary paperwork can be found here.
Submit a printed copy of the cover sheet and the entry to Mrs. Olson by December 14, 2018.

School Supply Donations
Our friends at Phelps Luck Elementary need our help! PLES is in need of: boxes of tissues, primary writing journals (journals with primary, dotted, handwriting lines and picture space), and poly expanding files (plastic expandable files with a rubber band closure and file divider pockets inside, for 8.5x11 letter size papers). Simply send your items to LES with your child or place them in the collection bin in front of the school office. Thank you SO much for your donation and ROARsome support of our HCPSS family!
Love for Cooper
Are you looking to support the Trueblood family? With frequent trips to and from the hospital, the family could use our support for things like gas, meals away from home, and specific items for Cooper. Gift cards are ideal (Visa and Amazon are two good general ones.), and these are being collected in the front office. You can drop them off or send them to school in an envelope marked “Cooper Trueblood.” Your thoughts and prayers are great gifts, too!
