Our Highlights: What We've Been Rockin' At!
Another fabulous week in the Rock Star Classroom! This week during Science, we began looking at a broader picture of erosion. We looked at erosion in the United States and where it is occurring. Students as scientists, asked questions, developed hypotheses, and then we designed how we might be able to identify what is speeding the erosion process up in certain areas.
In reading we have been reading Cinderella and learning about the elements of folktales and fairytales. We will be reading different version from around the world of Cinderella this week. Including Sydney Rella (about a football player who loses his cleat), The Rough-Faced Girl (an Algonquin story), The Korean Cinderella, and Jouanah: A Hmong Cinderella, and many more. We will be focusing on comparing and contrasting these versions and working on making connections from text to text.
In writing we've been working on parts of our personal narrative writing. We worked on the plot and on focusing in on a small moment. We will be working on writing personal narratives for the next few weeks and publish them into our class library. After we our personal narrative unit, students will be writing their own fractured fairytales and connecting what they have learned through reading different versions and fractured fairytales themselves.
In Math we are going to continue to work on really getting down place value so that students have a solid understanding of why we regroup and not just how we regroup.
