Mrs. Waterstredt's weekly newsletter
Week of October 17, 2016
Math- This week we will use mental math to solve multiplication problems involving multiples of 10 (i.e. 4 x 30 or 40 x 30). We will use area models to multiply. I will also introduce the Place Value Sections and Expanded Notation Method for multiplication. (Remember that I have short videos on the bottom of the page for you to view if you would like!)
Writing - This week we will finishing our Personal Narrative unit with our final on-demand writing piece. This is where students will independently show me all that they have learned in our writing unit. We will then begin our persuasive writing unit.
Science - This week we will look at food chains in our ecosystems.
Social Studies - In Social Studies we will finish the until by looking at special purpose maps and talking about regions in the U.S. We will review for the test in class, and I will send home their study guides. I plan on giving the Social Studies test on Friday.
Reading- This week we will learn to make mental movies to make our characters come to life as we read. We will also learn to step inside the story to envision the main character's world. We'll then discuss character traits, and find evidence in our stories to support the character traits that we think apply to our characters.
The Book Fair is still open this week! Swing by school between 3:00-6:00 Monday and Tuesday!
