SCCDP HIGH FIVE!

Career Specialist Amy Miller hosted a unique event for students at Pelion High School. On February 8, Gritty Jobs with Amy Miller showcased eight career paths from local businesses -- NASCAR Fireman, Arborist, Funeral Home Director, Walker White Mechanical, Austin Logging, Biomedical Engineer, Diamond Concrete Solutions, and HVAC Technician. Panelists introduced themselves then answered questions from emcee Matt Miller (Amy's husband). Students also had the opportunity to ask questions. Teachers shared how their students returned to class excited and motivated by what they heard during the presentation.

Leveraging Partnerships to Create a Talent Pipeline Through Work-Based Learning

In addition to hearing about the structure of work-based learning in Greenville County Schools; attendees will learn about LaunchGVL. LaunchGVL is a partnership between Greenville County Schools and the Greenville Chamber to connect high school juniors and seniors with paid work-based learning experiences across business sectors. This session will be a round-table discussion of the structure of LaunchGVL to include: an overview, history, best practices, processes, challenges, funding, data, lessons learned, and successes. Attendees will hear and learn from the Greenville County Schools work-based learning coordinators. Through collaboration, this relatively young program is growing a greater Greenville!
