PCHS Senior Post

Message to our Seniors
Dear PCHS Seniors and Senior Parents:
We know Governor Parson’s decision to keep schools closed for the remainder of the year is especially difficult for all of you. You have worked incredibly hard and were rightly looking forward to doing so much this spring, from participating in sports and musical performances to prom and, of course, graduation. While we are unable to hold many of these activities as planned, we are committed to honoring your accomplishments as creatively as possible.
Graduation Update
We are finalizing plans to reschedule our Commencement ceremony for Thursday, July 30, 2020, at the KCI Expo Center. As we get closer to this date, we will be communicating additional details. We are collaborating with our local health department on the safety of hosting a large gathering, and will update you with any changes as needed, but please save this date.
Our senior class sponsor, Bret Anderson, along with senior class officers are gathering baby and senior photos for the graduation slideshow. Our counselors will also use your senior photos for a scholarship slideshow. Please send these items to 2020pchssenior@gmail.com no later than May 1, 2020.
Celebrating the Class of 2020
Connecting with Elementary and Middle School Teachers
One of the events we had scheduled this spring was our "Graduation Walk" through your elementary and middle schools. While you really don't know what you missed out on, we know that our previous classes have always come away from them with positive reviews. Seniors’ faces lit up when their former teachers were there to give them high fives and hugs. Seeing younger Pirates look up to graduating seniors helps you to come “full circle” with celebrating the culmination of your 13 years of hard work.
We are working on plans for your elementary and middle school teachers to reach out to you - they may be sending you a message via email, or inviting you to a class Zoom meeting. I know they are thinking of you and their students still look up to their older “Pirate” peers. We know not all of our Class of 2020 students attended a PCR-3 middle or elementary school. We’ll still be reaching out to you to connect in these ways. Joining a class meeting is optional, but encouraged! Nothing like hearing from a kindergartner to brighten your day!
The entire PCR-3 community is proud of your hard work, dedication, and accomplishments. We too are disappointed that our plans for recognizing those accomplishments have to change. Rest assured, our community WILL celebrate you.
Now, we need your help —
We have some creative ideas that begin with gathering information from you. We’ve put together the following Google Form which we would like every PCHS Senior to complete. It includes a way to upload a senior photo if you have one. If you don’t, no worries - we have your school photos too. Various PCHS clubs, sports, and organizations are also recognizing their senior members on social media. This will be in addition to those efforts and we will aim for every senior to be included.
Be the Light
There is a national "Be the Light" campaign encouraging schools to turn on stadium lights to show support for the Class of 2020 and spring athletes. Beginning April 17 and continuing every Friday night through May 15, we will beam the lights at Pirate Stadium and the softball field at 8:20 pm (20:20 military time) for 20 minutes and 20 seconds.
**Please enjoy from afar!
If you have additional ideas or thoughts about honoring the Class of 2020, please share with us! You can provide feedback of any kind on the “How are We Doing?” link on the homepage of our website, or leave a message at PCHS - 816-858-2822.
We hope you stay safe, healthy, and strong and know that we are very #PCR3Proud of you. One of our staff members shared this message in a video to students, and it’s worth repeating: “A smooth sea never made a skilled Pirate. Keep calm, and Pirate on.”
Take Care,
Dr. Sayre
