Magnificent Medieval Times
in the JLC Class
The Knight at Dawn
During the weeks of 7/7 and 7/13, the JLC Campers read the 2nd book in the Magic Tree House Series: The Knight at Dawn. Check out some of the awesome activities they participated in so related to the book and medieval times!
Castle construction
The children were instructed to build a castle taller than 30 inches. Look at those smiles during some math fun!
Shape Castles
The children followed written directions to create a castle using specific shapes--geometry in action!
Classroom castle
The children voted on colors, and materials to construct our classroom castle--terrific team work!
Learning
The children observed a mini catapult and discussed how catapults were used to help protect castles.
About
The children then made their very own catapults!
Catapults!
Once complete, we had catapult races and measured the distance our "pom poms" were catapulted across the table.
Minstrels...
The children used classroom instruments as well as created their own to use to perform for the "royal family" during play.
...Jesters...
The children took turns juggling and telling jokes for the "royal family".
... & Authors at work!
After looking at a castle picture, the children created and wrote their very own short story.
Happy Birthday Jai'onna!
Sneek Peek into the next 2 weeks...
Over the next 2 weeks, the campers will be reading the third book in the Magic Tree House Series: Mummies in the Morning.
