Kinder Performance (K-2) classes invited to attend...
ATTENTION, ATTENTION!!!! K-2 classes!
Your class is invited to attend this year’s Kindergarten music program, Let Us All Sing! By Dr. Seuss on Thursday, March 5th at 8:30 a.m. I will send another invite the week of the performance with more specific details about the event, but I figured I could be proactive about letting you know now, so you will have it swimming around in your brain while you plan. We look forward to seeing you there. Please let me know if you have any questions.
From Ms. Reyes- Book Fair and Dr. Seuss Week!
Did you know that Read Across America has changed? It used to be one week of celebrating reading with a focus on Dr. Seuss books and his birthday. NEA is now doing a year-round celebration of diverse books to help motivate kids to read.
At Highland Park, we have always enjoyed celebrating all types of reading! “Dr. Seuss week”, which coincidently falls on our Book Fair week of March 2nd -6th, is so much fun! Attached, please find a flyer to share with parents on Class Dojo or through email.
We hope you and your class can join us for some (or all) of the activities.

From Mr. Olivas- LPAC Information
We have scheduled the LPAC decision meeting for March 6TH during your planning period. I am expecting this meeting to be completed in no more than 15 minutes per bilingual teacher and 15 minutes for all ESL teacher. Mariela will be sending you the detailed schedule so you can know at what time you will need to attend the meeting.
The only way we can accomplish this is by having the decision forms ready before the meeting. I will be available after school the week of the meeting to help you out with any questions that you might have, That way we can do things in advance and save time.
Attached you have the decision forms – 2019-2020 K-5 STAAR Decision Form – complete this electronically or in paper for each student and send them to Mariela by Thursday the 5th.
· Complete one form for each of your LEP students, attached is the roster with your students. For the two-way DL teachers complete one for each or your students including non-LEP, monitored students. (for non-LEP and Monitored students only select language, they do not qualify for any supports)
· First select language of testing on PART I of the form- based this on data – (write down justification detailing MOY scores from MOCK or Reading levels for English and spanish)
· Then Select designated supports for language needs. (accommodation that students have received routinely in the classroom and will help their needs) – if students already receives any of the accommodation because they participate in 504 or SPED program, do not select it again. But write a note on PART III saying “students already receives accommodation through 504/SPED”
· On PART III of the form write down any other supports that you think your students need. (we will discuss eligibility before on during the meeting)
Please complete these task by Thursday March 5th. We want to honor you time and maximize it so please, please do this ahead of time. By this time you probably know what your students need, therefore it is just the documentation required. If you are unsure about the task or accommodation please come and talk to me or Mrs. Landers.
Thank you team.

Kudos (these are from us and your colleagues) :)
- Ms. Young, Ms. Rodriguez, Ms. Clark, Ms. Vicky- Their EA title should really be changed to behavior techs because they've been doing a FABULOUS job supporting behavior on this campus. They are so positive and they do a great job keeping the demand-even when it's tough! They have so much forgiveness in their hearts for our students and those tough moments and we are so lucky to have such incredible EAs!
- Shout to Ms. Clark because she was personally named by two different parents of two different students in an incredible compliment about our school. Our parents of kiddos with special needs feel so comfortable and confident leaving their child in our care because they know she has a great relationship with the kids and that there's just nothing she can't do!
- Shout out to everyone one who supported our Fabulous Fine Arts Night, no task was too small, every little bit helped make it so successful!
- Shout out to all teachers nominated for Teachers of the Year! Ms. Lane, Ms. Kinsey, Mr. Montalvo, Ms. Stevenson, Mr. Lubman, Ms. Banales, Ms. Lowther, Ms. Hartford, Ms. Sadler, Ms. Becky Thompson, Ms. Landers, Ms. Garvey, Ms. De Leon, and Ms. JImenez!
- Shout out to all teachers nominated for Rookie of the Year! Ms. Dang, Ms. Ceballos, Ms. Rojas, and a couple that aren't brand new teachers but were nominated: Ms. DiLuzio, and Coach Young.
- Shout out to all staff nominated for Humanitarian of the Year! Ms. Moreno, Ms. Vazquez, Ms. Lane, Ms. Kinsey, Ms. Duong, Ms. Stevenson, Mr. Montalvo, Nurse Henderson, Coach Harvey, Ms. McDonald, Ms. Clark, Ms. Kelley, Ms. Munoz, Ms. Sanguinetti, Mr. Roberto, Ms. Reyes, and Ms. Sadler!
