Team Thomson News & Notes
Week of: October 6, 2019 #ThomsonRocks
Important Information for You!
As I shared with all of you on Data Days, each PLC Team has a folder in our Thomson Elementary in Google Drive. Within that folder there is a PLC Meeting Notes template for your PLC. This is were you will be able to track your PLC meetings, student and curricular discussions, and plan agendas and dates for future meetings. While in the shared folder this weekend double checking that the templates were all in the correct folders, I noticed that some PLCs have already been using them...YAY! Starting this week, if all PLCs would begin using them it would be greatly appreciated. I hope this simple, but important practice will help us track all the great work and discussions that we have.
Gearing Up for Parent-Teacher Conferences
With Parent-Teacher conferences less than two weeks away, now is the time to begin gathering and planning for how you will share important student information about your students with their parents. As we discussed, there are many items to review:
- NWEA Student Goal Setting Worksheet (Megan printed) and Family Report (You print)
- KRA Individual Student Report/ISR (Megan printed)
- IRIP, if needed (You print)
- Read At Home booklet (Passed out from the office)-Might be a good idea to highlight/flag specific pages that would be helpful for parents, especially those of our students with IRIPs.
- Curriculum Assessments & Writing Samples that you have to date. Remember this is not the end of the marking period, so you are not expected to have assessed all the first marking period items.
While this seems like a lot to go over, without the report card Emily shared that the conference time of 20 minutes actually is plenty and leaves time to really talk about the student. As a parent, I can tell you that one of the most important things is that the parents feel like you know their child...both academically and personally. In preparing for conferences, it is also important to think of something you can tell them about their child that will make them smile, maybe a funny story, how they are always helping their peers, or how one of their interests impacted the class.
Also, if you would like Jason, Megan, or I at a conference, please make sure you get with us so the time can be put on our respective calendars. If you have any questions, please let me know.
PTO- Fundraiser Is ON & Classroom Donations Have Been Made
As you know our PTO Fundraiser is currently taking place and forms/orders must be turned in on Friday, October 11th. This is our PTO's largest fundraiser of the year, so it is important that we help encourage our families to participate. If you could mention something in your newsletters or through other communication, I know our PTO would appreciate it.
Also, PTO has made their first of two yearly donations your your Classroom A-74 account. They voted to add $200. Using the formula that we have in the past, I will be providing you with 'deposit' slips this week. PTO will make another donation after Christmas. The amount then will be dependent on how the fundraiser goes and the balance in their account.
Quotes Worth Reading
"It is better to have a great team than a team of greats."
-Simon Sinek
"Interdependent people combine their own efforts with the efforts of other to achieve their greatest success."
-Stephen Covey
I have always loved that our Thomson Team can come together as ONE team and get the job done, support one another, and be there for out students. It is not easy work that we do, but it is made easier when we work together.
Thank you for all you do!
Do ONE Thing and Make a Big Difference!
Continued through October, work to find out one new thing about your students. What do they do after school? What are they interested in? What's their favorite color? Think about how you might incorporate the things you learn or their interests into your daily teaching. Knowing your students and their interests will hold help you to build strong relationships with them.
Celebrations & Announcements
Birthdays This Week: Wishing a Very Happy Birthday to Sara Howes, (Today) September 6th.
Morale Pals
Thank you to everyone who is participating in Morale Pals! While I do not take credit for this idea, I do hope that it helps to add smiles to our days and building. Kay had mentioned keeping a copy of completed forms in the office so anyone could check them out if they wanted to randomly brighten another person's day. Anna and I thought this was a great idea and will be making a copy before writing the morale pal on the originals. For those that have turned in their forms, please look for an envelope in your mailbox Tuesday. If you have decided to participate, but haven't turned in a form you may still do so and when we have enough to we will set you up a pal.
Welcome Holly Cusatis
Some of you may have met Holly Cusatis already, but I would like to formally introduce and welcome her to Thomson. Holly will be the long term sub for Emily Williams who begins maternity leave Monday. Emily is being induced Monday and once we hear news on baby Williams birth, it will be passed along. In the meantime, help me in giving a warm welcome to Holly.
