Dear Everitt Families:
As you may have read in the district's update for our community, Jefferson County Public Health today announced it is changing the County’s COVID level to Level Clear beginning Sunday, May 16. Read on for how this applies to our schools and our district’s commencement ceremonies and other outdoor end-of-year celebratory events.
The change to Level Clear does not impact in-person school protocols. Indoor mask requirements still apply, and quarantines will still be implemented according to the guidelines. We encourage our families and students who are eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine in order to protect each other and keep our community on track for returning to normal. See the next item in this newsletter for information about upcoming vaccine clinics for students 12 years old and up.
So what does this mean for our continuation ceremony on Wednesday, May 26? Both 8th grade students and their families are invited to attend in person. A few things to note:
- Our ceremony will be held outdoors on the south end of the school. Students and staff will have chairs on the blacktop. Families are welcome to join us on the hill-- please bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.
- Both in-person and 100% remote students have the option to attend in person or the option to attend remotely via Livestream. (Livestream link here: https://youtu.be/n8LFcbqUdJc)
- Though we are not limiting the number of guests per student, we would ask you to keep your family's party to 10 or fewer.
- We are not requiring a specific distance between parties, please try to maintain social distancing between your group and another household.
- Continuation will begin at 6:30. Please make sure your continuing 8th grader arrives by 6:15 at the latest.
- The ceremony will include a musical performance, a special guest speaker, and of course, a celebration of our extraordinary students. It should last about an hour.
We will celebrate the end of this crazy year with all of our students on the last day of school. The bell schedule for Thursday, May 27 is below. Note the following:
- Yearbooks will be handed out to in-person students that morning. They will have the opportunity to sign yearbooks in each of their classes.
- 100% remote students will not have live academic classes that day. They are invited (but not required) to join us outside for brunch and/or Field Day with their grade levels.
- 8th graders have the option to leave school early after brunch at 11:10, or they may stay to participate in Field Day activities until noon.
- All students (6th, 7th, AND 8th graders) are released from school early that day at noon.
8th GRADE FAMILIES: Please fill out THIS FORM to let us know your student's plans for continuation and the last day of school. Don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions.
As always, thank you for believing in the power of neighborhood schools to bring our communities together, and thank you for sharing your kids with us; it is our honor to serve them.
