Fourth Grade Update
Week of 9/19-23
Latest News...
We are well into our routine and fourth grade studies. I am concerned about our desire and amount of time that we are reading for enjoyment. I am sending home a list of suggested books for fourth graders. Please help your child see the joy in reading. Perhaps you could read the same book or have reading time together. It is great to model the enjoyment of reading. Our new public library is a very nice place to get books and to take time to read.
Social Emotional Update
I am using the motto ...
HOW DO YOU WANT TO BE REMEMBERED?
This will guide us to stop and think about the person we are becoming. I encourage you to use that at home as well. I know it helps me real that my actions and attitude remain in the presence of the company I keep, even after I have left the room.

Rolad Dahl Day
Roald Dahl Celebration
It is one of my favorite times of the year … Roald Dahl Author Celebration. We will study many authors this year, but Roald Dahl is one of my favorite authors for fourth graders. He is the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, among many other great stories. We have read one together and are currently reading various others in book groups.
To celebrate his success as an author and ours as readers of his stories, we will use recipes from his cookbook to explore another side of reading … “taste” of stories. ☺
We will hold our celebration on Sept. 30, from 9:30 to 11:00.
Here are the items we will need to make each recipe. Please contact me at shawna.wise@cps.k12.ar.us if you have any questions. Thanks for all of your support and help in celebrating our author study.
Please contact Glenna Hollis (glennahollis@gmail.com) if you can donate an item or you can volunteer to help. Thanks!

Dear Parents, 8/30/16
We are excited that your child is on our fourth grade team this year. One of the highlights of the fourth grade is our field trip. We move our classroom to the 4-H Center in Ferndale. Students will be involved in many useful hands-on activities like fishing, canoeing, hiking, wall climbing and team building activities. The trip is scheduled for Nov. 14th. The learning experience students receive while there will be utilized in the classroom throughout the year. The life skills they are taught will be valuable as they continue to grow.
This year the district has chosen to make this a one day trip for all 4th graders and extending the day. We will be taking extra chaperones from school so we can have small groups. We will leave at 8:00 a.m. and return by 6:00 p.m. We will not be staying overnight this year. However staff members from Ferndale will do activities with our students at Central on Tuesday, Nov. 15th. The cost of the trip (lunch, snacks, training and use of equipment) and the sessions at Central will be $50.00.
We have four payment plans knowing one will fit into your budget.
Payment option one: Pay $50.00 in full. (Due by Nov. 4)
Payment option two: Pay two equal payments of $25.00. (Oct. 7 and Nov. 4)
Payment option three: Pay three equal payments of $16.67 (Sept.30, Oct. 14, and Nov. 4)
Payment option four:Pay four equal payments of $12.50 (Sept. 16, Sept. 30, Oct. 14, Nov. 4)
Please make your check(s) payable to Central Elementary, include your child’s name on the memo line, and send it to your child’s teacher. A receipt will be sent home to show proof of payment.
This is a wonderful experience.
Thanks!
