A warm welcome back Monday at JSE!
Happy New Year JSE Families!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are back in the swing of a routine. Students were all smiles today and last week coming in when they saw their teachers and friends. I received many air hugs and high fives greeting them at the door!
As you read in Superintendent Hunter's communication, we have increased our measures to stop the spread of germs. Both in classrooms and in our building, we are following all sanitization protocols and encouraging social distancing and mask wearing. At this time we continue to follow our current Return to Learn plan and will update you should the plan be updated with regards to the new CDC and IDOH guidelines. Please continue to let the office know of virus concerns within your home and keep your child home when symptoms are present. We will work with you to arrange for learning at home. We appreciate your partnership and support!
At this schoolhouse, we have jumped right back into learning and setting goals for the new year. Students have already set their classroom reading goals and many got a jump start over the break. Report cards were available in Harmony or sent home for the 2nd grading period. As always should you have questions regarding your child's academic performance please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher or me. Report card information and NWEA benchmarks provide us with individual student growth information and focus areas to inform our instruction.
As we begin the second semester, students and parents will notice an increase in academic rigor. This semester's rigor will prepare your child for their next grade level. It is important you work with your child nightly on their homework, ensure they read each evening, and practice their math facts. Please communicate with your child's teacher if you are unsure of your child's academic goals and how they are progressing.
If your email, phone number or cell phone carrier changed over break, please let our office know asap. This is one of the ways we inform you of delays, school closings and other important information.
Very Sincerely,
Leigh Barnes
Principal
Congrats to our Winter Reader Challengers! They were busy reading their favorite books over break. Now to celebrate their accomplishment with hot cocoa and cookies with Mrs. Kegebein in our library!
