SCHOOL VIOLENCE AWARENESS WEEK
Annually, districts across the state observe School Violence Awareness Week during the third week in October by providing age-appropriate instruction to discuss methods for keeping schools safe, to consider school safety and security plans, and how to recognize students in need of help. Our Anti-Bullying Specialists have worked in collaboration with school administration to plan for School Violence Awareness Week, which is next week, October 16th - October 20th, with activities such as focusing on managing emotions at the elementary level and theme days at the secondary level. For example, "Team up against Bullying. Wear your favorite Jersey."
- At SBHS, activities will include VTN announcements about safety and a positive school climate, homebase activities created by the Anti-Bullying Specialists, book selections available in our library about respecting diversity and differences in others, lunch booths with information about domestic violence and assault prevention, and many other initiatives.
- The middle schools will have homebase activities around school safety during the week, including HIB refreshers and reviews of student conduct expectations.
- The elementary schools will have daily morning meetings and activities on self-management and everyone's role in preventing conflicts, along with reviewing the elementary acceptable behavior agreements and throughout October, review of HIB policy and procedures.
