SLP Schools Online: Grades K-6

September 22, 2021 Newsletter

See translation information below / Consulte la información de traducción a continuación.

Greetings,

This week online teachers for grades K-6 are introducing a new schedule. The schedule brings more opportunities to learn both synchronously (live) and asynchronously (on demand). Each learning experience is important for your child not only academically, but to build new routines and practices. Please encourage your child to participate fully.

Watch for information from your online teacher(s) about our first resource pick-up. The resources will be distributed at the Spring Lake Park District Services Center. The details will be shared by online teachers in their class updates.

In October, we will use a tool called Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) to check in on student learning progress. This is an assessment tool that helps us understand student growth over time in reading and math. This is not to be a stressful activity but is one input for us to use to personalize learning for each student. Our online students will be taking the MAP assessments October 11-15. Please review the details in today’s newsletter and complete the request for information at your earliest convenience.

We also will be having parent/teacher conferences in October. We will have more information on opportunities to connect with teachers on student progress in the upcoming weeks.

If you still need a school-issued iPad or have other tech questions, please reach out to our tech department through the following ways, by email at techsupport@district16.org or call 763-600-5555.

Finally, please call the SLP Schools Online K-6 attendance line to report a student absence when a student is too ill to participate in "live" sessions, and/or complete daily work expectations. I also ask that you call the attendance line if a student will miss instruction for other reasons, including vacations, appointments, etc. The attendance line is: 763-600-5209.

Thank you for your continued support and flexibility as we roll out a new school year for Spring Lake Park Schools Online K-6. Our partnership with you is not taken for granted. Thank you!

Take care,

Kimberly Fehringer

MAP assessment plan for grades K-6 online

Your child’s teacher is regularly assessing your child’s progress in their learning. Additionally, we use Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments to look at progress in reading and math over time across grade levels, schools and the district as a whole. This fall SLP students in grades K–10 will be taking MAP assessments.

Teachers use the information these assessments provide to personalize learning experiences and will share information with families during upcoming conferences. Our school and district use information from these assessments to look at overall math and reading performance over time. This helps us determine how learning is going for all students.

Students need to take these assessments in person
We are hoping all our SLP Schools Online students can participate, and will follow strict health and safety protocols, including masking and physical distancing. However, if you do not feel comfortable having your child come in person to take these assessments, they will not be penalized.

We will be scheduling assessment dates October 11– 15 at a central district location. The assessments will take about 20 minutes for students in K-1, a little over an hour for students in Grade 2 and about two hours for students in Grades 3-8. We can be flexible with times and dates of testing if you are able to provide transportation for your child(ren). If you are not able to provide transportation and live within the school district boundaries, we will provide transportation, but dates and times of testing will be limited.

We need to hear from you

At this time, we need to know if you need transportation for your child to the assessment location within the district.

Please complete
this form by Monday, September 27.

If we do not hear from you by September 27, we will follow up by email and/or phone. Please reach out to Kim Fehringer if you have any questions or if you need help with the form.
