Bang Bear News

December, 2021

A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL

I heard from many students that their Thanksgiving week was great. We had a wonderful November at Bang Elementary. Thank you to all of our parents who joined us for Family Literacy Night, Book Fair, and the Spelling Bee.

Thank you to our awesome PTO and volunteers for providing a fantastic Family Movie Night and Day of Awesomeness celebration day. A big thank you to all of our volunteers that helped out for these events. Field Day was a tremendous success because of your support and the outstanding work from our PE department.

Our holiday parties are December 17th. Our PTO will provide snacks, treats and games. One volunteer per class will set the parties up. For the safety of the students our parties will continue to be for students only. We appreciate your support and understanding.

As we prepare for 2022 let's work together to increase student attendance and decrease student tardies. Instruction begins @ 8:00 we want our students to attend school everyday on time unless they are ill. We adore our Bang Bears and look forward to seeing them each day at school. We are striving for 98% or higher attendance rate for the 3rd 6 weeks.

As always, thank you for your support.

News from the Clinic

The week before Thanksgiving, we conducted our annual vision and hearing screening of all students. Vision was done with a photo screener. A photo screener tests your child’s vision with great accuracy by looking at the back of the eye without the use of the traditional eye chart. If your child came home with a packet that stated they did not pass vision, please consider allowing them to participate in the See to Succeed field trip.

This field trip will take place February 7-11, 2022 at the Berry Center. The exact date for Bang has not been set but will be in the range listed and will be communicated to parents as soon as possible. See to Succeed is sponsored and organized by the Harris County Health Department. Each participating student will have his or her eyes checked by a doctor and will be fitted for glasses in frames of his or her choosing (if necessary). Approximately 1-2 weeks later, the glasses will be delivered to the school and then given to the appropriate student.

This is a great opportunity for your student to get his or her eyes professionally examined at no cost to you.

Please consider this great opportunity. The application is due 12/07/2021. Unfortunately, students under the age of 6 are not eligible. If you need help getting glasses for younger students, please reach out to me and I can give you resources.

Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Isabella Thompson! Isabella is this year's Spelling Bee Winner.

Library News

Thank you for an amazing and record-breaking book fair. We sold over $12,000 at the book fair and raised almost $3,000 for new library books for our Bang Bears.

We appreciate your support and dedication to encouraging a love of reading.

Thank you for the hard work and time given by our volunteers to make our book fair a success. We could not do it without you!

Cozy up with a Good Book! Encourage the joy of reading with these holiday reading activities.
