Norma Coombs Elementary School

2020-2021 Welcome Back to School "Home of the Lions"

Principal Lucas welcomes students and parents back to school 2020-2021.

Special Message From Debra Lucas

Dear Norma Coombs Families,

I hope this letter finds you healthy and safe in these unconventional times. This is the time to remember, “We Are Leaders”. I want to give a very warm welcome to all of our new families and staff that are joining Norma Coombs this school year. I am disappointed that we will not be able to start school in person on August 17th, but I am hopeful that we will be able to have in person instruction at some point during the year. During this difficult time, we have heard so many stories of determination and bravery. I know during this extended time of remote learning we will continue to see examples of awesomeness in what students and staff are accomplishing. in the meantime, we will follow guidelines in order to keep our students, staff and families healthy and safe.

Our terrific teachers have been hard at work during the summer learning how to navigate the new online platform called Canvas to best bring our students the instruction they need through Distance Learning. Furthermore, students will be getting daily live instruction from the teacher as well as assignments and instructional videos. As parents, I know how challenging it can be to work full time and assist students with online learning, however it is imperative that we do so. Communication with your child's teacher will be more important than ever during this time. Ensure that your child is accessing the instruction and communicating with the teacher when you need assistance.

Weekly Sunday Evening Announcements

You will receive a weekly Sunday Evening phone blast and email with important information about what is happening at the school. There is a lot of information in this newsletter regarding distribution of learning materials and chromebooks, daily instruction schedules, hot spots, attendance meals, parent committees and a couple of upcoming events. As everything is frequently changing, I will do my very best to keep you informed as timely as possible and to provide the best possible instruction to all of our students each day during this school year.

It is extremely important that the school has accurate contact information, including a working email. The use of technology is no longer optional in these times, it is vital. If you need assistance acquiring an email, please contact us so we can help you.

The office of Information Technology is currently repairing Chromebooks. If you have an issue, I suggest you put in a ticket now, rather than wait until school starts. Submit a ticket.

A Parent Portal account is necessary for registration and for distance learning. If you do not have one, please see the attached document on how to create one or click here.

Please feel free to call or email me with any questions you may have.

First Day of School: August 17, 2020 (Distance Learning)
