Cozine Climber Updates - September 6
A Note From Cozine:
Hi Climber Families!
We have had an amazing start to this school year! Thank you all for helping your children get to school on time! We start our instruction at 9am, so it is important that students are here at 8:55 in order to get the most out of every day.
In Kindness,
Ms. Jodi Notch and Ms. Lisa Dalton
NEW INFORMATION
Open House
Open House is Thursday, September 7 from 5:00-6:30pm. This will be an opportunity for your child to show you the work they have been doing in school and for you to ask questions to our staff. We look forward to showing you our beautiful campus!

There is no school for students on Monday, September 11 as this is our Staff Development Day.
Also, please make a note that we also have Staff Development Day on October 9. and Parent Conferences on October 10. There is no school on either of these days.
Restaurant Fundraiser Nights

Please mark your calendars for our upcoming Restaurant Nights:

Also, thank you to those of you that supported our Kneaders Fundraiser Night! We look forward to more fun restaurant nights next school year!
Parking Lot Safety
We would like to remind you of the importance of driving safely in and around the school parking lot. The safety of our students is our top priority, and we need your help to ensure that everyone is safe.
Please remember to follow all traffic rules and regulations when driving in and around the school parking lot. This includes obeying speed limits, stopping at stop signs, and yielding to pedestrians. It is also important to park only in designated areas and avoid double parking or blocking other vehicles. Around Drop-off and Pick-up times, there is only one entrance to the lot. Please do not enter through the exit, they are clearly marked.
Lastly, our children learn from us. Be the example. Follow the rules.
By working together, we can create a safe environment for our students. Thank you for your cooperation.
Fall Picture Day
Fall picture day will be Tuesday, September 26, 2023. All students will get their picture taken for a school ID card and the yearbook on this day. Families may also order picture packages of their student. Order forms and envelopes will be sent home the week prior to picture day for cash or check payments. Online orders can be submitted at mydorian.com
Fall Festival
It's hard to believe, but it's time to mark your calendars! Our Fall Festival is coming on Oct 26th from 5:00-6:30. Wristbands go on sale October 16th. These allow for unlimited gameplay during the festival. They are $10 each. Food will be sold separately. Trunk or Treat will begin at 6:30PM.
Map Growth Assessment
Our first set of MAP Growth assessments for the 2023-2024 school year have been completed. Students worked very hard on their reading and math tests! These adaptive assessments help inform the instructional strategies used in our classrooms. They allow us to see what individual students have already learned and what they are ready to learn next. We are looking forward to seeing their progress this year!
Read to Spin, Spin to Win!
All students (K-5) should be reading each night as part of their homework. Reading daily positively affects academic achievement, improves writing skills, stimulates creativity, and helps to build empathy. All minutes read should be recorded on the student's APPLE CORE bookmark. Once the bookmark is complete and turned in, students will have the opportunity to spin the prize wheel.
Dads In Schools
We are utilizing the Dads In Schools program at Cozine again this year. This program uses volunteers to support students social development by playing games and reading books all while building cooperative skills that come from these activities. We ask volunteers for this program to commit to a regular time between two and four times a month with a small group of students.
If you are interested in information on this program, please come to one of our sessions where we will share program specifics, schedule needs, and background check procedures. Our first sessions are:
Friday September 15th from 2-3pm
Tuesday September 19th from 2-3pm
Please contact Abigail Vega, our Communities in Schools specialist at Cozine ES, for more information at vegata@nv.ccsd.net or 702-799-0690.
School Shoes
Please make sure that your child has PE appropriate shoes for their PE days. These days change every week, so it is important that you check with your child or your child's teacher to find out their schedule.
Also, if your child wears Crocs to school, they must be worn with the back strap down. We call this "Sport Mode" for Crocs!
Thank you for your help with this as it is important for student safety.

House Spirit Days
We have monthly House Spirit Days! Students are encouraged to dress in their house spirit colors for these days! Students new to Cozine will be assigned their house on Friday, August 18. All returning Climbers will stay in the same house.
Our houses are as follows:
Humanitas - House of Kindness (Green)
Salutem - House of Safety (Red)
Veritas - House of Honesty (Blue)
Eruditio - House of Scholarship (Yellow)
Let's go all out and show our HOUSE SPIRIT! Our next House Spirit Day is: Friday, October 6
REMINDERS
REMINDER: Cell Phones and Smart Watches
At Cozine, students are required to keep their personal communication devices off and in their backpacks during instructional hours. Students are permitted to use their phones before and after school. This aligns with district policy that helps prevent bullying, cyber bullying, unfiltered internet access, and cheating. If you have questions about this policy, please reach out to the office or school administration.
