3rd Grade Weekly Update
September 28-October 2
Objectives for the week...
Writing: We will brainstorm ideas for a fiction writing and begin drafting. We will practice the spelling pattern ea and ee.
Social Studies: We will identify the changes in communities over time.
Math: We will round numbers to the hundred thousands place using timelines and understanding place value relationships. We will identify coins and count money to find a total.
Science: We will find measurable properties of matter and compare and contrast matter based off of these properties (volume, mass, and length).

*You can create numberlines with chalk and have students place a number on the numberline and then see which number it is closest to, to round to that number.
*You can find change around the house and have your child add the change up to find the total.

Ways to Practice at Home:
Have your child use measuring cups to help bake and pour liquids if they read mL.
Have your child measure objects around the house with a tape measure using the centimeter side.
3rd Grade Homework and Tests
Review will be sent home Monday with your child. It is a 7 question worksheet called Representing Numbers CFA. These are the questions your child will use their strategies and knowledge on for their test Thursday. This needs to be completed and turned in by Thursday for your child to be prepared for their assessment.
Place Value Part 2 Assessment will be the following week, October 7th
PRACTICE FACTS NIGHTLY!
Science: Our first assessment in science will be October 6th, the review will be sent out electronically on October 2nd.
Writing: We will have a spelling test over long vowel words with the spelling pattern ea and ee.
Social Studies: None
Reading: We will have our vocabulary quiz over unit 1 on Thursday.
*We will continue to have beginning of the year testing in different subject areas to assess where students are in their learning.
