"The Seven Blind Mice"
2nd Grade students recently completed a book study on The Seven Blind Mice from the Wit & Wisdom reading curriculum.
Mrs. Gilmore's students organized information for topic sentences and details, had Reader’s Theater for story re-telling, and worked on the art focus of collage from their vocabulary.

2021 Electives Fair
This was a great opportunity for students to hear more about courses that are offered and the new courses coming to MHS as students prepare to select their electives for the 2021-2022 school year.

Check Out What's Happening in Mr. Merritt's Classes
Mr. Merritt captured some great moments in his classes as his students worked to measure sound waves and did some dissecting on a sea star.
In Picture 1, a student is working with a virtual oscilloscope to measure sound waves in physical science class.
In Pictures 2-5, students are following procedures to dissect a sea star.
MHS FCCLA Out Shines Others!

Nutrition and Wellness
These girls received high marks in nutritional research, creativity and implementation.
Fashion Construction Level 3
She received high marks in sewing abilities, creativity and speaking/ presentation skills.
Chapter Service
They led the chapter in hand making greeting cards for all residents of Alma health and rehab to help lift their spirits as Covid has separated them form their families.
They also crocheted lap Afghans and made little lap quilts for the residents highlighting the skills they have learners in FCS classes.
These girls received high marks not only in service but in showcasing CTE education through innovated works. They will also be advancing to State
Sustainability Challenge
Their research involves how plastics do not break down and turn into micro-plastics that are consumed by fish and wildlife and is passed to humans through the consumption of these animals.
These girls received recognition not only for their project but for the community service as Mountainburg has a high hunting population as well as the water supply for all surrounding communities.
Fashion Construction Level 2
Mandy’s project highlighted the need for quality constructed children’s wear, that were comfort and environmental friendly. Her focus was on fully biodegradable fabrics that left a smaller eco footprint.
She received high marks in creativity, resources, and sewing ability. Mandy says that it was the hardest project she has ever done.
Repurpose and Redesign
She designed, crocheted and fabricated a functional purse using sofa pop tabs she collected from fellow student and teachers. She showcased that we can save the environment and be fashionable at the same time!
She received high marks in creativity, presentation, resourcefulness and research!
Sports Nutrition
Tanner received high marks in innovation and creativity.
Trinity Graves
Trinity investigates an elementary teacher career and received top marks in her APA formatting, writing and speaking categories.

We will be recognizing five seniors from the Class of 2021 who have dedicated a lot of time and energy since Little League Basketball as Dragons and Lady Dragons.

2021-2022 Scheduling will begin next week -
(Dates are tentative and subject to change due to
unexpected circumstances such as Covid)
All students are asked to watch emails closely and join the counselor’s
(Barbara Daniel) Google Classroom.
*Invites have been sent to students’ emails and a “re-invite” will be emailed the Friday before each grade level’s week to schedule.
Dates for Scheduling:
- February 1- February 5 -- all 9th graders to-be 10th grade
- February 8 - February 12 -- all 10th graders to-be 11th grade
- February 15 - February 19 -- all 8th graders to-be 9th grade
- February 24 - March 1 -- all 11th graders to be SENIORS
Other Information:
- All juniors have the opportunity to take the ACT free of charge on February 23
- WATC and Concurrent credit courses require a qualifying ACT or ACT Aspire score
- Any current 10th grader interested in WATC or Concurrent College courses next year should register for an ACT test this spring.
- Go to https://my.act.org/ and create an account to register
- Fee Waivers are available in the counselor’s office
- For the Youth Pageants: PreK - 8th Grade: Click HERE for information.
- For the Miss Mountainburg Pageant: 9th - 12th Grade: Click HERE for information.
All forms will need to be downloaded as either Google Docs and a copy made to be completed or printed off and submitted.
Please Note: Due to the pandemic, the Pageants will be held in Carl D. Rogers Gymnasium and seating will be provided for contestants' parents only. The pageants will be broadcast through the school's YouTube Channel.
