HCSD COVID-19 Social Contract - Please read!
The following is a contract that we will be asking all families to electronically sign in the coming week. We believe we can mitigate the spread of the virus by following guidance from the county and state and by following the guidelines below. This contract is for ALL HCSD families regardless of if you have chosen In-person Return to School or Virtual Classroom. Thank you to our APG and parent leaders for your partnership in working with HCSD in crafting this document for our schools and community.
HILLSBOROUGH CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT COVID-19 SOCIAL CONTRACT
The Hillsborough City School District is committed to the health, safety and well-being of our students, educators, families and the Hillsborough community. Reopening our schools safely will be dependent on all of these constituents' cooperation and will require vigilance from every single community member both when they are at school and when they are at home. Being responsible and caring for our community is critical and every one of us plays an important role in supporting the health and safety of each other.
Our collective ability to adhere to the items outlined below will be critical to the pace at which we are able to reopen campus and will help to keep the gates open as long as possible. We encourage families to acknowledge their consent to this pledge as a condition to their student(s) returning to our physical campus this school year.
When on campus students agree to:
Wear a face mask which covers the nose and mouth at all times with the exception of face mask breaks designed by the teacher.
Maintain physical distance of 6-feet from other students and educators as practicable.
Wash hands and/or use hand sanitizer frequently. At a minimum, hands must be cleaned when arriving on campus, before eating, after eating, and any time a mask is taken off.
Limit personal items that are brought to campus each day and not share food or supplies with other students.
Closely follow the outlined access/egress guidelines and directions from school staff.
When off campus families agree to:
Recognize that the behavior of our community members off campus directly influences the risks that students and educators take by coming to campus.
Protect themselves and others by wearing a face covering when in public while maintaining physical distancing, exercising proper handwashing techniques and practicing good hygiene.
As best as possible, limit attendance at large gatherings or situations in which individuals are not observing recommendations from the County and State.
Consider limiting your travel outside the Bay Area while your student is learning on campus.
Higher-risk travel includes situations involving interactions within 6-feet of individuals outside of their household if they or those around them are not wearing masks at all times, especially indoors or in large groups (e.g., air travel).
If higher-risk travel is unavoidable with your child, consider having your child undergo a 14-day quarantine per CDC and SMDPH recommendations when you return to Hillsborough. This is not a requirement for returning to in-person learning but is highly recommended.
In addition to the above commitments, families agree to:
Complete the screening Ambry App each morning before school.
Keep their child at home if a Red Badge is displayed on the app.
Notify the school immediately if a student or family member has been diagnosed with COVID-19 or if a student has been exposed to someone who has tested positive with COVID-19 (less than 6-feet for more than 15 min).
Undergo testing if you suspect your child or a household member has COVID-19 and await test results from home.
Provide a note from a physician providing medical clearance when asked by the school should COVID-19 exposure occur.
Acknowledge that if a child develops known COVID-19 symptoms during the day, they will be moved to an isolation station. Parents will be contacted, and the child must be picked up from the campus as soon as possible.
Be kind, attentive, and helpful to anyone who may be in need of support in following safety health practices. Provide respectful and gentle safety reminders and suggestions to those who may need them, and respond graciously when others provide them.
We expect HCSD community members to collectively safeguard the health and safety of others, and to abide by the policies, procedures, and orders related to COVID-19 implemented by the State, County, and Hillsborough City School District. As educators, we are committed to keeping our entire school community as safe, healthy, and well as possible by following all protocols and procedures outlined in our district reopening school plans.
Although the risk of viral transmission from COVID-19 cannot be completely eliminated, it can be significantly decreased by a social contract between stakeholders. We’re all in this together! Thank you for your support and continued partnership.
