School Board Appreciation Month
Board Recognizes Fall 2022 Student Spotlight Honorees
The Board of Education recognized the Fall 2022 Student Spotlight honorees. Students were honored at their respective schools by local sponsors including the Henderson Dispatch, MAKO Medical, PRIM Residential and the Vance County Public School Foundation. Students were featured in the newspaper and social media during their recognition. They will be formally recognized at a banquet this spring. Each student was presented a certificate, on behalf of the Board of Education.
School Resource Officer Appreciation
Mr. Rey Horner, Executive Director of Student Services, shared the many duties of our School Resource Officers, as they ensure the safety of our staff and students every day. The Board of Education recognized each of our resource officers for their hard work and dedication. Currently, Deputy Hargrove, Deputy Kearney and Deputy Lewis serve at Vance County Middle, Vance County High and Advance Academy.

COVID Dashboard: December 2022
Dr. Cindy Bennett, Superintendent, shared that the COVID-19 dashboard continues to be updated on the VCS website.

Action Items by the Board of Education
The Board of Education voted and approved the following:
- $5,000 sign on bonus for newly hired Counselors, Nurses, Social Workers (Certified Instructional Support Personnel)
- 2 international faculty sponsorships per fiscal year through the use of local funding
- BOE Standing Committees/Meetings
Personnel
The Board of Education approved 13 employment recommendations. We would like to formally welcome the following: Sheila Yancey (ASC), DeSean Thorpe (VCMS), Roderick Lewis (ASC), Erica Evans (Carver), Ty-Mhaj Hart (Dabney), Briant Davis (EMR), Sandra Hargrove (EMR), Juliet Black-Jasnosz (EOY), Esau White (LBY), Joy Velasco (Lee), Tina Moore (NH), Renee Collins (VCHS), Moses Richardson (VCMS).
The Board accepted resignations for 6, retirements for 2, temporary/substitute employment for 1, transfer/promotions for 5 and 1 contracted services.

Next BOE Meeting will be February 13, 2023 at 6pm.
