From the Principal's Desk...
Parents and Guardians,
Testing, Testing, Testing! We have a few critical weeks coming up at St. John’s. Next week we will begin with our CogAT testing (Cognitive Abilities Test) in grades 2, 5 and 7. This is a series of 9-10 minute assessments that measure a student’s reasoning skills. The following week we will start IOWA testing with all students in grades 2-7, along with a few 8th grade students who are required to take the assessments. The IOWA assessment data will be used to monitor the growth our students are making from year to year and evaluate mastery of learning standards.
I encourage students to get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and come prepared to do their best on these assessments. We will be running on an adjusted schedule so students will be able to attend all classes throughout the week. Students in grades 2-5 will be taking paper assessments and will need a minimum of 2 - #2 pencils. Grades 6-8 will take their assessments online and will need to make sure they bring their computers fully charged each morning and have a pair of headphones that is compatible with their laptop. Once the assessment results are returned, we will break down the data as a faculty to see how we can make improvements.
If you have any questions about the upcoming testing windows, please feel free to reach out.
Thanks and have a great week!

The Jungle
February is American Heart Month to raise awareness about heart disease. Last Thursday we wore “RED FOR RILEY!” Riley, the daughter of a good friend of Mrs. Weinheimer, was born with a heart defect and passed away a few years ago at the young age of only 14.
Hear that Bengal growlin’ mean and angry! As the Bengals were getting ready to play in the Super Bowl, it couldn’t have been a more perfect time for Miss Pearce’s 3rd grade artists to learn about and paint these amazing tigers!
Third Grade Boot Camp
Third grade is going to boot camp to review the basics this week! Students at Fort Caldwell and Fort Holleran have been doing daily multiplication and division drills to exercise their minds. Sergeant Sentence and Commander Capitalization reviewed writing and grammar skills to help make their sentences the best.
