Thoughts from Dr. Voelkl

Each morning following the first bell we share a prayer together as a school community. This week we reflected on and shared prayers about many of the Saints of December. Often this time of year so many of our thoughts land on comparing ourselves to others in order to make sure we have the right "stuff" and are engaged in the"perfect" experiences with our families. We often hear the phrase "Comparison is the thief of JOY." Comparison does not always have to be the thief of JOY. Perhaps instead we can spend time counting our blessings and reflecting on how we can be more saintly in our own lives. This particular year has also brought an added level of anxiety, frustration, fear and a host of emotions that are a result of our inability to control all that is happening around us. May we look to the weeks ahead with a spirit of hope and a heart filled with faith.

Dear Father in heaven,

Thank you for the special month of December,

a month of bright starlight

and the month of the birth of your son, Jesus,

the light of the world.

Thank you for saints, Lucy, Nicholas, Juan Diego and Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Through their example, we can be better servants and grow closer to you.

Fill our hearts with December starlight and the light of baby Jesus

so we can shine for others.

Calendar Change!!!!! Christmas Break

After much thinking, reflecting, rethinking, evaluating we have decided that in lieu of returning to school on Monday and Tuesday, December 21st and 22nd, Friday, December 18th will be our final day of instruction for the month of December. We DO PLAN to return to school January 5th for in person instruction as per the original calendar. Having students and staff home on these days will eliminate the need to conduct contact tracing and potentially making quarantine phone calls on Christmas Eve and Christmas. Christmas celebrations will take place in classes on Friday the 18th. Teachers may provide suggestions for tasks students may want to work on while on break.

If you are a PRESCHOOL FAMILY you will receive a SEPARATE email regarding plans for these days in the 3 and 4 year old classrooms. The office will be staffed on these days. If the need for childcare is a DIRE CONCERN for you PLEASE CONTACT the office at to let us know as we would like to develop a plan for families for whom this is an extreme hardship.

Heading into the SEMESTER BREAK is always a great time to check on supplies and materials. Have your child check their supply of crayons, markers, pencils etc. We are also now in need of paper towels an kleenex if you are out and about and able to pick some up for SCB.

The ability to view grades on FACTS will be turned off next Friday, December 18th. When you have a moment now would be a good time to check in on your child's grades, as well as any potential missing assignments. If you have any specific questions or concerns PLEASE feel free to reach out to your child's teacher or teacher for clarification. Dependent upon the age of your child, I would start with them first in seeking additional information.

BASK and Cafe

Where do I find out how much money I owe for BASK and/or cafe?

Go to the home page of FACTS. Then click on "Family" on the left hand side of the the screen. Then Cafe and BASK will appear on the center of that page. You can click on the blue "details" word and that will open up the account. REMEMBER a positive balance indicates that you owe money and a negative balance indicates that you have money in your account.

Please make cafe checks out to FSC or use paypal

Please make BASK checks out to SCB with Bask in the memo.

Back by popular demand :)

We have had many phone calls and emails requesting to put Sign Ups back in the Newsletter.... so here you go. It can still be found on the main page on FACTS.

What to expect from ADHD/ADD- Speaker, Amy Moss

Amy Moss works for West Co. Psychological. She will be discussing things to look for if you feel like your child may have ADHD/ADD. This is a great discussion on what would be the next steps to take with your child and how to better serve your child. This will also help dispel some myths that you may have. This is a great platform to be on if you coach children that may have ADD/ADHD as well. This will help you understand how their brain works and how to better serve them.

ADD/ADHD are often misunderstood. These children need tools and strategies to assist them in their daily lives, just as a student with glasses, asthma, etc need tools and additional support to live their best life.

Hope you can join us!

*** To follow up on the email that was sent out earlier this week, we want to stress the importance of masks. Masks must have a minimum of two layers. Most Gators do not have two layers, so please do not have your child wear them. We have also found that students who wear the Gators do not consistently wear them properly. Not wearing masks or gators properly WILL result in students being quarantined. We would REALLY like to eliminate Gators when we return after Christmas.

Good options for masks (but not limited to):

PLEASE go to FACTS and fill out the medical portion of each child. It is very important for us to know about your child. Please let us know any medication they may take in the morning- ADHD, Allergy, etc
