Recombinant DNA Technology

Recombinant DNA in Eukaryotic cells.

The technology to manipulate a cell's genes first stated with bacteria but has since moved on to be able to affect eukaryotes. Eukaryotic cells are more complex and often need modifications of the techniques that scientists use to replace genes in bacterial cells.

Techniques typically used by geneticists include:


  1. Injection of DNA.
  2. Viral injection. (where viruses that inject their own DNA into cells are used to inject select DNA strains into eukaryotic cells)
  3. Molecule bombardment (molecules like gold or tungsten is shot into the cell that introduces the DNA into the cell.

-All these processes use enzymes that are specialized that helps target certain areas of DNA
