WIZARD WEEKLY
Week of March 6th-March 10th
WORD FROM THE EMERALD CITY
~A big shout out to Courtney and Patty and their committees as they have worked to organize tonight's Math/Science night activities! Also, shout out to Christine as she has worked finishing the final touches to our Makerspace room! We received some more "goodies" last week from the PTA to add to the robotics and coding section of the lab! We are excited to get it up and going once we return from break!
~ Please try to attend tonight in order to help out where needed! This is usually a heavily attended event, so we would appreciate any extra assistance we can have!
~Thanks to everyone for voting for our nominees for the awards this year! It was a close race, but the votes were tallied and results were sent over to HR on Friday. We will have a meeting when we return from break to recognize all of the winners!!
~ This Thursday is the PTA meeting and Aladdin performance!!! Last year, Annie was AMAZING, and I have no doubt that Aladdin will just as FABULOUS!! Shout out to Vickie for all of her hard work and what an amazing backdrop!! Great job!! Don't forget that we are starting at an earlier time of 5:30 this Thursday, since the PTA meeting will have elections take place before the performance begins!
Campus News
~ Please keep Kelly Stowe and her family in your thoughts and prayers, as she unexpectedly lost her grandmother over the weekend. We will pull together this week to help her kiddos and her team in her absence.
~Hang in there! We only have a few more days until break. I know the kids all have "spring fever" but just keep reminding them that a break is coming. Benchmarks went really well, and kuddos and shout outs to the testing grade levels and interventionists because your hard work definitely showed in the results. We know where we need to focus and what needs to be tweaked before the "real thing." Keep up the GREAT work!!
~ Just a reminder, I'm off campus this Thursday and Friday. (I'm SO sad I have to miss Aladdin). If you need anything, don't hesitate to email me! I hope you all have an AMAZING break and have time to enjoy the hopefully beautiful weather and get some well deserved rest!
~ On Wedesday, March 22nd, Pizza Buffet will be giving 15% of their proceeds to Elkins. This is an ALL DAY event, so if your team feels like pizza for lunch, consider ordering from Pizza Buffet and tell them you're ordering to support Elkins spirit day.
~ Last week, I forwarded an email from HR about employee badges. Please make sure to order a new badge if you cannot find yours, have a broken one, or it doesn't work. We are having a safety audit this month, and that is something that is on the list to make sure and have... all employees with working and up to date badges.
~ STAAR testing is March 28th & 29th. Please make sure to communicate to parents that visitors will not be allowed on campus during those days. I will advertise via social media and email as well. Most of them know this, and we usually do not have any issues or requests to be on campus during this time. Also, please do not plan to take off on these days (unless emergency, of course), as we have to have trained personnel in the building only. Bobby may be asking some of you to test, and if so, we will make sure to get any additional subs trained that need to be.
Be Vocabulous!
Continue to discuss the vocabulary with your students! It's making a big difference!
Here is the copy of the s'more newsletter about the vocabulary program. It has all the words listed for the year, so you can plan ahead! It has each word listed and the grade level responsible. The kids really enjoyed this last year, and I think this was something I had more comments from parents about than anything! They would comment about their students knowing the meanings of words that they didn't even know. The vocabulary parade was a big hit too. Even the older kids got into it and had fun being creative and participating.
Please turn in the "Word Up" Levels sheets when you have students who display the appropriate use of the words. Obviously, the younger they are, the more "adaptation" needs to occur in order to receive the levels, but the students who received the tags last year, LOVED it!! I will put the "Word Up Level" sheet on canvas!
As a reminder, the way the "Word Up Levels" work, goes like this...
All students will start as rookies and all students will have a chance to move up as many levels as they would like. Spirit Tags (that PTA is selling) will be used for levels 2 thru 5 and when a student reaches level 2 thru 5 they will receive a spirit tag for that level from the principal.
Teachers will nominate students to move up through the levels.
