Tips for Practicing Math at Home
Practice, Practice, Practice! Make sure your child practices math facts for 10- 20 minutes nightly! You can also practice in fun ways such as:
Skip counting is a fun foundation for multiplication. Start with having your child count by 2s, 3s, 5s, or 10s. As they get better, see how high they can count by numbers like 7 or 12 or higher numbers.
A trip to the store presents learning opportunities at every age. As you’re comparing different brands for the same item, ask your child how much you’d save by buying the lower-priced item.
When reading the store receipt, how many totals can your child add up doing mental math?
If you’re going to make a meal together, there are even more chances to practice the math your child is learning. To practice multiplication, ask your child to figure out the amounts to double or triple a recipe.
When you stop at a gas station, have your child check the price per gallon. Then ask how much you’ll spend if you buy 2 gallons, 5 gallons, 10 gallons, etc..

Alaina Simon - 3rd Grade Raider of the Month "I am nominating Alaina for many reasons. The first reason is that she shows Raider PRIDE everyday. She is very respectful when others are talking. She always waits her turn to speak. I have noticed many times Alaina helping her peers and working through problems together before coming to see me. I have seen such an improvement in Alaina's engagement. She is always raising her hand and taking chances. " ~Mrs. Gaffney | Gwen Fullet - 4th Grade Raider of the Month "Gwen has a positive attitude everyday. When she enters the classroom she is prepared with her materials and has an eagerness to start the day. She is willing to help others and does take care of others' feelings. Gwen is quick to point out the positives in others. If she has questions about assignments or needs clarification she does not hesitate to ask. It is a joy to work with Gwen everyday." ~Mrs. Hooker | Easton Hinds - 5th Grade Raider of the Month "Easton always has a positive attitude in my classroom. His positivity is contagious. He always demonstrates Raider PRIDE by being respectful to peers and his teacher. He works hard, and his determination inspires others. Keep up the great work Easton!" ~Miss Fisher |
