Mrs. Gibson's Class
The PTO Silent Auction event is scheduled for tonight, March 14th from 6:00-8:30 in conjunction with Candy Bar Bingo night. Fourth grade teachers will be calling out BINGO numbers from 7:20-7:40 that evening.
The 4th grade teachers have also donated a Teacher Experience for the silent auction. The student from each class with the highest bid at the silent auction will get to bring 1 friend and stay after school for pizza and a movie with the 4th grade teachers.
Raising Money for the Indianapolis Zoo Orangutans
Grant, Dylan, and Ivan are fourth graders in Mrs. Gibson’s class. For our Genius Hour project, we are raising money for the Indianapolis Zoo. The Indianapolis Zoo is accepting donations for the orangutan habitat. We are selling cookies and Rice Krispy treats for 50¢ on Friday, March 14th, at Candy Bar Bingo from 6-7:30 pm. Our table will be located outside the cafeteria in the hallway by the gym. We hope you can make it to Candy Bar Bingo and buy some treats, to help us save the orangutans. Quarters for Flowers
The students will be purchasing flowers to give to Miss Meyer for all of her hard work at the 4th grade musical. Please send in a quarter with your child on Monday.
TCE School Yard Nature Center Club
We are in the process of partnering with the Dad’s Club on creating a club that will develop our TCE grounds into an area that can be utilized as an extension to our classrooms. The club will be open to 3rd and 4th grade students only. The first meeting will be Monday, March 24th, so make sure to send a note to stay after school. The scheduled meetings dates are: March 24, April 7 & 21, May 5 & 19.
Fourth Grade Field Trip to Corydon/Squire Boones
Information came home about the field trip to Corydon/Squire Boones last week. We are only allow 7 chaperones per classroom, so if you are interested in chaperoning, please make sure you send in a separate check for yourself. Field trip forms and money is due Friday, March 21st. Seven chaperones will be randomly selected next Friday from those that send in checks.
End of the 3rd Grading Period
Next Friday will be the end of the 3rd grading period. This weekend, it would be a good idea to check your child's grades Skyward. Any quizzes or tests that are a D+ or lower could have been corrected and returned for a better grade. Those can be returned any time next week. I will always make a note in Skyward if the quiz or test has been corrected and returned. Let me know if you have any questions.
Items Needed for the Classroom
We are almost out of dry erase markers, so if you would like to donate some, it would be greatly appreciated!
Next Week’s Curriculum
In math, we will begin learning about fractions and decimals. We will learn how to convert decimals to fractions and also fractions to decimals in this unit.
In social studies, we will continue our unit on wars focusing WW I, WW II, the Cold War and Modern Wars. Connor Prairie will be visiting the 4th grade on March 19th. They will be presenting information about an Indiana family torn apart by the Civil War.
In writing, our research projects are going to be our Young Author books, so we are working hard to get our rough drafts finished so we can start publishing them in our books. We will continue our work on identifying the parts of speech and incorporating them in our writing.
