YALSA: Young Adult Library Services Association
This month's newsletter will focus on a division of the American Library Association that focuses on advocating for youth services in libraries. YALSA's mission "is to expand and strengthen library services for teens, aged 12-18."
YALSA is all about making libraries better, for teens!
YALSA provides professional development opportunities for librarians and teachers, informs policy makers and elected officials about the importance of libraries, and provides grant and scholarship opportunities to libraries across the country. To promote reading, YALSA gives book awards, creates recommended reading lists, hosts book events, and provides internship opportunities for teens across the country. Scan the QR code and visit YALSA's website for more information.
Upcoming YALSA Events
Teen Read Week
Teen Read Week is an annual event that encourages teens to be readers and library users. This year's Teen Read Week will take place October 18-24, 2015 and the theme is "Get Away!." The theme is meant to inspire teens to read for pleasure and to view reading as a means of escape from the stresses of everyday life. Whether you fancy romance, adventure, science fiction, or horror, we have a book that you can escape into. Come visit us during Teen Read Week!
Teen Tech Week
Teen Tech Week is a time for libraries to showcase the digital resources and technology that they have available. This year, Teen Tech Week will take place March 6-12 and the theme is "Create It at Your Library." The MCHS library has tablet carts, an iPad cart, Kindles, and a computer lab for student use. Stop in during Teen Tech Week to learn more about all of the awesome services that we offer, what technology we have available, and how we are using our resources to prepare students to be college and career ready.
