Key News for Explorer Families
Our campus buzzed with excitement this week! On Tuesday we welcomed the group, Strong 4 Life. They pumped up the students with a high energy, engaging message about making smart decisions. Teachers also got to show their dance moves while their students cheered them on. Students also received water bottles. Strong 4 Life asks us to remember to:
-Eat smarter, drink water
-Get rest to be your best
-Emotions are real, express how you feel
-Put screens away, go play
This morning, students were greeted by Centennial High School football players during carpool and bus arrival. It was so fun to see our Explorers getting high fives and knuckles from the players. A few of the players led us in the Pledge of Allegiance too. Northwood is excited to partner with our feeder high school! Their game tonight is away at North Springs, but next Friday, they have a home game that they would love to have Explorer families attend to cheer on the Knights.
Our PTA is ready to host Music Night for our 4th and 5th graders tonight. The students will be here to enjoy a glow party event with music, food, and games. Thank you, PTA, for putting together the fun event!
With gratitude,
Heather Rucker
Principal
Music Notes with Ms. Dahl
The Northwood chorus has been practicing for our winter concert on December 13th. This sweet group of singers are working hard to learn and memorize a lot of songs. We will perform winter songs, Hanukkah songs, and other holiday favorites.
In music class this quarter we have been reviewing and learning about rhythm symbols and patterns. We have had so much fun practicing fun rhythm patterns with various instruments. Our next unit is all about pitches and melody. We will be learning how to identify pitches and read music.

All Pro Dad - M.E.N.
We had another packed Cafeteria and another great All Pro Dad’s breakfast last Friday. Thank you to the PTA, all of the All Pro Dads who came out and a big thank you to the M.E.N - Male Educators of Northwood. Our students are very lucky to have such incredible male role models in the building with them every day.
Northwood First Quarter Honor Roll
We are happy to share Northwood's first quarter honor roll and super honor students. Please click the links below to view the names. Congratulations, Explorers! Keep up the great work!

Buzzer Readers is Back!
The Georgia Tech Women’s Basketball team would like to invite your child to participate in their annual “Buzzer Readers” reading program. Buzzer Readers is an initiative to promote and encourage children to learn through reading. All elementary and middle school students from schools in Metro Atlanta are eligible to participate.
Rules:
Each child will record the number of minutes read each day during the designated one-month period (October 24 - November 22). This year we will be utilizing Beanstack. Sign into your account (Classlink-->E-Library-->Beanstack) and log your minutes read. In addition to books, newspapers and magazines will also count.
- Parents may read to their children; however, group reading in a classroom setting is not to be counted.
- The name of the book, along with author, is requested to provide information to the teacher as to the types of books the children are reading at home.
- Please ensure the books are geared to help the children learn and grow. Ebooks/Nooks or books coming from a source provided from the school (i.e. library) are permitted.
Awards:
- All students who participate in the program will receive a Georgia Tech bookmark and free admission to a Georgia Tech Women’s Basketball game against an ACC Opponent (TBD in January/February 2023). Participants are also eligible for other prizes such as autographed memorabilia.
- In addition, the top classes with the most minutes read will receive a visit from the Georgia Tech Women’s Basketball team in the spring semester.
Prizes will be awarded for the following categories:
- Highest School Total (Elementary and Middle School)
- Highest Class Total from Each Grade
- Highest Individual Total (Elementary and Middle School)
- Highest Individual from Each Grade
- All Participants (in seat recognition during GT Women's Basketball game and Georgia Tech bookmark)
NORTHWOOD’S ANNUAL BOOK FAIR IS COMING SOON!
Our Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the Media Center November 14th-18th - mark your calendars! Book Fair is the major fundraiser for our Media Center. It is also a wonderful opportunity to purchase books as holiday gifts for your children and family, or perhaps something special for your child's teacher!

Art to Remember Fundraiser
Northwood artists have been working on their artwork for our Art to Remember fundraiser. Kindergarteners made hearts, first graders made flower pots, second graders made flowers, third graders made sun/moon designs, fourth graders made animals and fifth graders made succulent pots. You will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of products featuring your child’s artwork like magnets, mugs, keychains, and more! There are over 50 products and many are less than $15. These make great gifts and a percentage of every purchase goes right back to our school. Be on the lookout for an order form sent home with your child or click on the link below to search for your child's artwork. Order deadline is October 31st.
