Mrs. Gabbard's Class News
What happened at school today?
Want to get your kiddo talking about what they are doing here at school? Here are a couple questions/subjects to help guide the discussion:
* Show me some of the ways you can do subtraction.
* What exploration station did you do this week?
* Tell me some rhyming words, remember they will have the same ending sound.
Our language arts focus this week was rhyming words. We practiced identifying rhyming words in stories, matching rhyming words and creating our own rhyming words. As you are reading to your children each night please encourage your kiddos to pick out rhyming words in the stories you read.
The sight words for next week are: black & white
Sound Cabinet: Letter O
This week your little mathematicians had so much fun learning and practicing subtractions. We played with rubber ducks, ate cookies( their favorite form of subtraction) played musical chairs and talked about all the different ways we can show subtraction. There are lots of real world ways we can practice our subtraction skills at home, please look for opportunities to do that with your little learner. (Example- I had 5 peas on my plate, I ate 3 how many do I have left?)
Your little authors this week have practiced writing personal narratives. We are trying to write stories that readers can't wait to read more about. We do this by adding lots of juicy details. Moving away from- It was a present. Moving towards writing things like- The present was huge and had a pretty big, red bow on top.
You may have heard about the "Gingerbread Man" that is visiting our classroom. He "travels" during the night and reports back to our classroom in the morning with a letter about his travels. Through these letters students will learn about different holidays that are celebrated around the world. If you celebrate a holiday from a different country and would like the Gingerbread Man to share about it please let me know. I would be happy to inform him.
It has been a great week, thank you for sharing your children with me!

Hello wonderful parents! This is Mrs. Foust with our news from Discovery. This week we began a new unit, Healthy Foods and Exercise. We read the book, Berenstain Bears and Too Much Junk Food and then discussed good food choices. Students also had fun using the scooterboards for exercise this week! For Social Skills, we discussed the importance of calming down when we are upset and making good choices.
These little friends were so creative during an indoor recess this week. They made a complete meal out of play-doh including dessert with sprinkles on top!
He is visiting our classroom during the month of December. He "travels" in the night to celebrate holidays around the world and share the traditions he learns about through a letter to us the next day.
Is it a cube or not a cube? We had lots of fun with this shape sorting activity. We talked about 2d and 3d shapes, faces and vertices and in the end we only had 1 cube.
