Newsletter Week 1, Term 4

St Michael's School Rotorua 21st October 2022

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Tēnā koutou kātoa e te whānau,

I hope you were all able to spend some quality family time with your tamariki over the holiday break and that the children are rested ready for a busy last nine weeks of 2022.

All classes are participating in the Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme this term.

This programme is a comprehensive child abuse prevention programme for schools.

The purpose is to:

  • teach students a range of safe practices that they can use when interacting with other people, both online and face to face
  • teach students how to recognise the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, and encourage students who have been or are being abused to seek help
  • prevent abuse by making parents and teachers more aware of their responsibilities to help students avoid abuse.

If you require more information about the Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme, please come in and have a chat with your child's classroom teacher. Or follow the link https://www.police.govt.nz/advice-services/personal-community-safety/school-portal/resources/successful-relationships/kos#anchor1 which has information for parents.

We also have Katie and Harold from Life Education visiting this term. The focus for this year's lessons is making healthy food choices and why it is important to eat a balanced diet. The kids love visiting Harold in the interactive classroom so I am sure you will hear all about it.

We have a lot planned for this term, so please keep an eye on Seesaw, the School App and newsletters so you can keep up with everything. Term 4 has a tendency to be very busy and can get away from us, before we know it, it's Christmas! Just 64 days to go and only 38 school days left! Not that anyone is counting!

Have a great long weekend, and let's hope for some summery weather!

Health and Safety

Covid is still about in our community, we had five staff members sick over the holidays. Please continue to keep your child home if they have flu or cold-like symptoms. The school has covid tests if you require them.

Juicies on Friday

During Term 4 the children will be able to purchase a nice cold juicie for $2.

All orders will be taken in the classroom at 9am. This will take over the sausage sizzle.

Wednesday School Lunches

This term lunch orders are done online through Ka Pai Kai on Wednesday only. Details are set out below. They really look forward to your support. Check out the website and look at all the lunch options.
