3RD GRADE
Hello 3rd grade family,
This week was a busy week filled with traveling to Whitharral and Morton for UIL. Those who participated did awesome, and I am so proud of each one of those who participated. For reading this week, we looked at more fiction texts and are now able to identify each story structure; characters, setting, problem, key events, and solution. We are in the transition of working on paper to our computers. I have designed my Google Classroom to where students can complete daily activities on their computers. This helps the students practice typing and seeing STAAR based questions during everyday activities.
In phonics, we reviewed suffixes and the way they change the meaning of the root word. We don't have spelling this week due to UIL.
In writing, we are continuing to work on our “RAP” game. The word “RAP” stands for restating the question, answering the question, and proving by providing evidence from the text. Using different colors to show each step to correctly answer STAAR based questions.
In social studies, we are reviewing our mapping skills by reading maps and understanding the purpose of maps.
Reminders:
- NO SPELLING TEST THIS WEEK OR NEXT
- Thanksgiving break begins November 23rd
- We have school Monday, November 21st and Tuesday, November 22nd
Thank you for all you do,
Temple Reinhart
Gracias por todo lo que hacen,
templo reinhart

4th & 5th Grade Math
-In 4th grade Math, we have started working on very basic Algebra problems. Some students have really enjoyed working these problems it has been a change of pace because long division has been challenging.
-In 5th grade, we are wrapping up dividing decimals and after Thanksgiving break, we will start working on fractions.
-We need for the 4th graders and 5th graders to practice multiplication math facts every night for about 5 to 10 minutes. The work is becoming more challenging, and the students need to know their math facts to have a smoother learning experience.
-We need all students to be at school every day if possible because we do not want them to miss out on any new math concepts or having to do the make-up work.
Thank you for your support,
Stacy Gamez
5TH GRADE
5th grade ELAR & Social Studies
This week we finished our first novel study over Number the Stars! The kids loved it and I think they learned a lot! We used this to look at the author's use of voice in her writing and her word choice. We are focusing on the literary elements that make up fiction and how authors craft their writing. We will continue this practice into next week. The spelling test will be tomorrow because we had so many out for UIL today.
In Social Studies, we are learning about the early exploration of the Americas and the first colonies.
Reminders:
- We have school next Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving break!
- Please have your child read 20 minutes every night!
- If you haven't scheduled your parent conferences, please get with me ASAP!
- Please bring donations for the FFA food drive for Thanksgiving!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you,
Mrs. Rasco
