The Refugee From Sudan
By Jake E
Johnson Maker
Have you ever wondered how refugees actually get here. Apart from the boat part of the trip most people have no idea what others have to go through to even get on a boat or be allowed into the country legally. Johnson Maker came from Sudan in North Africa where there was lots of fighting. One day Johnson came home and all of the villages were attacked unfortunately his dad had died and it was really hard for Johnson at this point.
His Life
After this Johnson ran away with lots of other escaping kids and families. It was a long journey and some people didn't make it to the final destination; kakuma. It was a camp were 40 000 stranded families and kids went for a place to live. Half of the 40 000 stranded people there were kids that means that there were 20 000 kids and 20 000 adults all living in camp kakuma. Conditions were rough and Johnson caught Malaria. With some medicine and good conditions Johnson survived. Every day at kakuma there was a school which he attended and got some education.
^Kakuma^
Kakuma is now more developed and even has its own demountable sports area.
Australia
Johnson lived at kakuma for 12 years before Australia legally allowed him to come. He then went to high school in year 10 but he was a few years older than everyone else and he was extremely tall compared to everyone in his year. Sometimes people made fun of him for being so tall. Johnson then went to university and he got a couple of Uni degrees. Johnson has founded a small buisiness could CushAid where people make donations and he sends them over to his home town. He also has a girlfriend and a loving family. Johnson is now a happy man.
