Principal's Corner

Greeting SME Families,

I hope this newsletter finds you well and rested from the summer sun and activities. Thank you to all that were able to attend our Meet Your Teacher event Thursday! It was wonderful seeing and meeting so many of you.

We have been planning and preparing for the return of our students. The entire staff is excited for the start of the 2021-2022 school!

Our daily schedule is 7:50 AM -2:35 PM.

This year’s theme, “Discovering the Power Within Me” will focus on further developing our students’ leadership skills via Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Happy Kids.

Lunch and breakfast for all students will be free again this year; however, we are still asking families to complete a Free and Reduced Lunch application. By doing so, our school could qualify for additional funding. Applications are located on our website and paper copies are available in the front office.

The first day of school is tomorrow Monday, August 23rd. Students may be dropped off from 7:30 AM-7:50 AM. Students arriving after 7:50 AM will be marked tardy. It is imperative all students arrive at school on time to ensure a positive, productive learning environment. For the first day of school only, parents/guardians may walk students to class. Kindergarten students with a staggered entry day of Tuesday may have a parent/guardian walk them in Tuesday. Parking is extremely limited. Please do not block the flow of traffic to the school entrances.

Car rider dismissal procedures will begin each afternoon at 2:40 PM. On the first day of school your child will receive a Parent Handbook. Please be sure to review it thoroughly with your child. This information will assist you in supporting your child and the school.

We have a great year ahead and are looking forward to a year filled with Love, Laughter & Learning!

Warm regards,

Mrs. Hester

Join Mrs. Timmins, our Media Specialist for an information session regarding this year's Chromebook use agreement and optional insurance program.

This year, every student at SME will be issued a Chromebook for instructional use, and families with no internet access at home may request hot spots from the district. We are also offering an optional $25 insurance plan for all devices. All parents/guardians must sign a district use agreement which will be sent home with your child this week. You will also be able to purchase the insurance through our online payment portal. We will send details about insurance in a flyer and via Dojo.

Questions? Please join Mrs Timmins via zoom at 7:00 PM. We will discuss the use agreement and the insurance program, and answer any questions you might have.

Bus Schedule SME, like many schools are short school bus drivers. As a result, we will have to complete double run bus routes. Please be sure to check your student's updated bus time. Additionally, we ask that you allow 10 minutes before and 10 minutes after the scheduled times. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to find bus drivers.
