Read-A-Thon Fundraiser

Welcome Parents, Students and Friends to our Read-a-thon!

This year, we are excited to announce that we will hold a Read-a-thon fundraiser. Our Read-a-thon is a program that brings students together with family and friends to encourage reading and to build literacy skills. The main focus of the Read-a-thon is for everyone to know we are committed to improving reading skills. To that end, the Read-a-thon promises to be a fun, exciting journey for all participants as they begin a personal Reading Adventure that challenges each reader to complete 10 reading sessions over our 2-week event.

Our Read-a-thon will start September 4, 2018. Coming home TODAY with your reader is paperwork explaining how you will activate their personal Read-a-thon page. We understand that, as parents, you have high expectations for the quality of your child’s education but also have limited time. That’s why we chose to hold a Read-a-thon. You will find this to be the easiest fundraiser possible. By simply activating your reader’s personal page and using the promotional tools found there, friends and family anywhere in the world can show their support for your reader by making a donation to our Read-a-thon.

Your involvement in the Read-a-thon will help your child develop a lasting love of reading. We hope each one of you will activate your child’s personal page this weekend!

Colors for Caring Day 9/10

Mansfield ISD is encouraging the community to wear a color that represents a cancer that affected the life of a loved one during Colors for Caring Mondays. Our first Colors for Caring Monday this year is September 10th.

View a cancer color chart here. (Not every cancer has a specific color designation, so multicolor or lavender can be worn to recognize those cancers.) The Colors for Caring initiative was implemented by Superintendent Dr. Jim Vaszauskas in 2015 after the support he received during his bout with thymoma cancer.

SAFETY

Anyone entering the building or picking up a student must show a picture ID. Those entering the building will be provided a visitor's sticker to wear while here. When leaving, you should go back to the office to give your visitor's sticker back to the staff.

CAMPUS VOLUNTEERS - YEARLY BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIRED

Mansfield ISD is very appreciative of the parents, community members, and business companions who volunteer at our schools. Volunteering in schools is a great way to become involved in the education process.

Because the safety of our students and staff is our top priority, those wanting to become MISD volunteers must go through the following security measures before serving in the district:

  1. Volunteers must provide a driver’s license or another form of identification containing the person’s photograph issued by an entity of the U.S. government to verify identity.
  2. Volunteers must pass a criminal background check. The online form is available here. MISD uses a reputable third-party company to obtain criminal background checks. The form asks for a social security number to conduct the background check. Please note that credit scores and credit reports are not obtained during the background check process. The information given will only be used to determine criminal history. MISD cannot require parties who are not employed with the district to provide social security information. If an applicant opts out, the background check process may take longer in order to cross-check information.

The background check must be renewed each school year. Any completed prior to July 1, 2018 are now expired.

Ben Barber Showcase Night

Ben Barber Innovation Academy is having its first Open House/Showcase Night on September 11th from 6-7:30pm. This is a great opportunity for students, parents and community partners to tour the facility and see all the great things they have to offer.
