The Dewey Decimal System organizes information into 10 broad areas, which are broken into smaller and smaller topics. Different topics are assigned numbers, known as "call numbers", are arranged from least to greatest. The call numbers for those 10 areas are:

300 Social sciences
400 Language
500 Natural sciences & mathematics

For instance, "Diseases" are given the number 616. To see what books the library right now has in on diseases, go to the non-fiction shelf and look at the spin labels of the books to find the numbers 616.
