Message from Mrs. Hawkins
Lincoln Families and Friends,
We have finished one quarter of the school year and we celebrated at school with a school-wide Lincoln Leader Prize Drawing. Can you believe we collected over 6,000 Lincoln Leader tickets in one quarter? We are also planning Turkey BINGO the week of Thanksgiving.
As I think about the skills students need to be successful, the one that is at the top of my list and a current challenge for many students is self-regulation. Students who learn to regulate their emotions and bodies will be ready to learn and will find success in school. Our classroom teachers are using this term in their classrooms and we are working with all students on tools and strategies that will help them identify how to self-regulate.
You can support students at home by creating a calm, predictable environment. Consider a routine for bedtime. Set a time when all electronics are turned off and engage your child in a calming activity like reading. This helps children focus on calming before bed and develop good sleep habits. Another time for a calm, predictable routine is morning. When students come to school dis-regulated, it takes away from learning time as we help them gain control. If your child struggles with self-regulation, help them find things that will calm them down. Identify the skill they are working on and experiment with tools that will help them. You can also talk with their teacher to get some ideas on techniques that are being used at school.
It was great to connect with so many of you at conferences! Thank you for partnering with us to help our students reach their full potential.

Inclement Weather and School Closing Reminders
When decisions are made to alter the school day or cancel it due to inclement weather, every effort is made to communicate that decision to parents in a timely manner through our school messenger system, the website, and local radio and TV stations.
Parents can choose to receive notifications via text message, phone call, email, and/or parent portal inbox messages. To help us contact households efficiently, be sure to update home, work and/or cellphone information in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, and verify that the appropriate boxes are checked to receive notifications. This will ensure that you automatically receive information about weather-related school closures in a timely manner.
Other ways to stay informed:

- Check local TV stations: KSTP- 5, KMSP FOX 9, WCCO, KEYC TV, KTTC, KAAL

Voluntary Vaccine Clinic
Owatonna Public Schools is supporting Steele County Public Health in offering voluntary COVID -19 vaccine clinics for children ages 5-11.
The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has been authorized for use in children ages 5–11 years old by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). If you have questions about vaccines, your pediatrician or family physician can be an excellent source of information. You can also get more information from the Minnesota Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Visit mn.gov/vaxforkids, the state’s new web page for parents on COVID-19 vaccine for children and teens to learn more about COVID-19 vaccines and where to get your child vaccinated.

Close Contact Recommendations
In using the guidance from state and local department officials, local medical experts, and the Minnesota Department of Education, Owatonna Public Schools is implementing the following guidance for your child.
If you child has been a close contact to someone who has tested positive for COVID we recommend the following:
Students will not be required to quarantine regardless of vaccination status; however, you are encouraged to utilize the 14-day quarantine option if your child is unvaccinated and/or they have not been wearing a mask.
It is recommended that you have your child tested for COVID-19 3-5 days after the close contact and that they wear a mask for 14 days following an exposure or until they receive a negative test result.
Students who quarantine at home will receive homework from their teachers for the duration of the quarantine.
If you choose not to quarantine your child and your child develops symptoms consistent with COVID-19, please keep your child home from school and activities until the symptoms are no longer present. It is recommended to have your child tested for COVID-19.
If your child tests positive for COVID-19, contact your school or program for the next steps.
