Good evening, Golden Hawks music family! There is just under a week left in our big fundraiser for this school year for band, orchestra and chorus. During this fundraiser, we are not selling anything, but rather we are doing a big push for donations!
Here is some basic information:
- A successful music program actually runs on thousands of dollars per school year--this goes to purchasing sheet music, hiring accompanists, getting custom practice tracks, funding field trips, feeding students at events, bringing in guest speakers, purchasing and repairing instruments, and much more.
- The Donation Drive began on Friday, November 11th and ends on Friday, December 2nd.
- Here is a flyer that can be given to businesses or posted in community news areas.
- Anyone can donate cash (marked in an envelope with their name or the student's name receiving the donation) or check (made out to Roberto Clemente MS). To see what people can receive in return for their donation, read the Donation Levels sheet.
- Our goal for this Donation Drive is a whopping $10,000 per program. Please find a band, orchestra or chorus student or reach out to David Rea or Melody Hine if you would like to donate!

SERT CLUB
The School Energy & Recycling Team, also known as the SERT club, is looking for interested students that want to get involved with the school's recycling and energy efforts. The SERT club played a major role when RCMS achieved it's Green School status prior to the pandemic and now we need to continue where we left off. Students participating in SERT will receive SSL hours as well as making a difference in our community.

COVID-19 SELF TEST KITS
Dear RCMS Families,
We know many of our families traveled over the Thanksgiving break, visited with friends, family, and engaged in community activities. All of these activities possibly involve a higher risk of exposure to COVID-19. Testing is an important way to identify individuals actively positive for COVID-19 who should temporarily isolate in order to prevent further transmission and keep our school community as healthy as possible.
Testing is not mandatory. We are depending on our staff and families to consider their exposure risk, and test and report positive results accordingly.
Some will receive a new type of test kit made by InteliSwab. Video instructions for InteliSwab can be found here in English and Spanish and here for other test kit types.
Please note that the InteliSwab test takes 30 minutes for results. Test kits should be used for staff and students. For other family members, free rapid test kits are also available at most public library locations. The expiration date on some of the rapid antigen tests being sent home may no longer be accurate. On July 8, 2022 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an amended expiration date for these test kits to extend the shelf-life. The extended expiration date is now 6 months after the printed expiration date.
What do I do if the rapid test is positive?
Please report positive tests for staff or students on the MCPS COVID-19 Reporting Form. Individuals who have a positive COVID-19 test will need to follow CDC guidelines for isolation.
What do I do if the rapid test is negative?
Negative test results do not need to be reported.
Please remember that non-COVID respiratory infections like influenza and RSV are also circulating in our community. Healthy habits including isolating when sick, good handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes help prevent illness. COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations are available for free for Montgomery County residents.
