Night of Excellence Project

Sometimes 47 minutes per class just isn't enough, especially when a student is doing something they love. Through this project, BMS teachers will help students reach new heights in pursuing knowledge in the subjects they truly enjoy.

Night of Excellence - What is it?

The Night of Excellence is an inaugural showcase of student work. Students will produce a project or product in a class to display at the event, 6-8 pm. Tuesday, May 24. Family, friends, and community members are invited and encouraged to attend. Visitors will judge the projects in a variety of categories - most creative, most informative, etc. - and a grand prize of Best Overall will be awarded by teachers. Winners will receive prizes such as gift cards and gift certificates.

The Process

Students were surveyed on their top five favorite subjects in March. Teachers used the survey data to create classes of students. We did our best to make sure students were put in classes that they were interested in while also keeping classes small.

Students met with their teachers Thursday, May 12, to discuss the details of their project. From Friday, May 13, through Tuesday, May 24, students will spend the bulk of the day with their project class. Time will be built in for students to meet with their other teachers.

By working in one class for an extended amount of time, teachers and students will be able to accomplish tasks that would be difficult when following a traditional schedule. Students will also have the opportunity to delve deeply into a project that sustains their interest.
