Recruitment and Development of the Educator Workforce

Developing a high-quality workforce is a high priority. Investigate resources below to support recruitment for educators and education-related positions.

District HR contact added to EEM

A new contact type – Human Resource (HR) Contact – has been added to the Educational Entity Master (EEM) and is available for all districts. This contact will be used by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) to communicate directly with HR staff regarding matters such as staffing, job fairs, and other HR related questions. It is recommended that all districts add a Human Resource Contact in EEM so that these important communications are not missed. For guidance on how to add, remove or edit a contact, please see the How to Add, Remove or Edit a Contact in the EEM guide.

EEM entity authorized users are responsible for keeping their entity records up-to-date.With accurate and up-to-date EEM records, the management of data and data submission operates more smoothly. To identify the current authorized users for the EEM for your district or educational entity, please email the Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI) Customer Support at or call 517-335-0505 x3. Please provide your name, telephone number (including area code and extension), district code, and district name (if applicable) along with your message.

Welcome Back!

The Michigan Department of Education is launching the Welcome Back Proud Michigan Educators campaign for educators with expired credentials to return to the teaching workforce by reducing or eliminating professional learning recertification requirements. The campaign recognizes these educators' experience and preparation while providing an opportunity for immediate employment with a local education agency, both traditional public school districts and public school academies, as part of strategic efforts to increase the number of certified educators in areas of shortage.

Educator Evaluation Updates

Educator Evaluation was waived for the majority of educators for the 2019-20 school year. Review the resources below for updates and supports for the 2020-21 school year.

Educator Recognition

Michigan’s educators are among the nation’s best and it’s important to highlight the incredible work they do every day to provide our next generation with a high-quality education. Educator recognition is a key component in an effective educator retention strategy. Learn about recognition programs to help shine the spotlight on the all-too-often unsung heroes in our schools across the state.

Michigan Department of Education: Office of Educator Excellence

The Office of Educator Excellence serves the community by providing whole-child centered resources to ensure every student in the P-20 system has equitable access to a high-quality, barrier-free system of education professionals. This is accomplished by the recruitment, preparation, certification, development, support, retention, and recognition of educators through collaboration with internal and external partners.
