Chisum Pre K May Newsletter

Mrs. Parson

On Monday, May 4th, Pre K will begin end of year testing. We will start out with our MCLASS EOY test, that is submitted to the state each year, showing our knowledge and growth. After we have completed it(which usually takes us approximately two weeks, since it is administered one on one), we will have our end of year report card assessment. By this time of year, everyone should be able to read their numbers in math up to 9, count to 30, recognize all our shapes, continue simple patterns and count up to 10 objects with one to one correspondence. To be on level in letter knowledge, each one should be able to recognize 46/52 letters, and we are working on being able to produce 20 letter sounds when they see the letter. Writing our names, without assistance will also be checked. We are hoping that this will all go by fast, and we can get on to some FUN end of year activities.

Field day will take place on Friday, May 15th. Pre K always participates in running races that morning and some field games. After our games, we will picnic lunch. I will be providing our lunch, all your child needs to bring is a disposable bottle of water with their name on the lid, a towel to hang out on, and have their fast running shoes on. Please make sure that your child wears sunscreen to school that day! We will all stay in our area, and the students must stay with our class during our time there.

Pre-K will go on their end of year field trip on Thursday, May 28th to the Jan Kay Ranch. We will spend the day looking at their collection of exotic animals, having a picnic lunch, and if time allows, play outdoor games. We plan on leaving the school at 9:30 and will return by 2:30. The cost of the trip is $3 per person(for parents and students), and we must have all student funds by Monday, May 25th to order tickets. We will pack a sack lunch that day, but a paper sack and reminder will be sent closer to time. We can't wait for our end of year trip!! Any parents that would like to go, and assist us in organizing games, we would love to have you. Please let us know in advance (by May 25th) if you are planning on attending so that we can have an idea of how much help we will have. You will be able to purchase your ticket when we arrive there. Only the student tickets will be ordered in advance.
