FAMILY SCIENCE NIGHT - TONIGHT!
OH SEUSS!
Wednesday, January 15th
6:30-8:00 pm
Alta Vista Cafeteria
Do you know the science behind Seuss? Create a kite-like Thing 1 and Thing 2 in The Cat and The Hat, construct a periscope to see across the land like Yertle the Turtle, build a maze to explore Oh the Places You’ll Go!, and discover microscopic friends just like Horton in Horton Hears a Who. Explore the crazy contraptions and wacky adventures in these Dr. Seuss books and others! The fun and learning begin at 6:30 tonight!
NEWS AND INFORMATION @ ALTA VISTA
On January 22nd, Alta Vista will host an orientation meeting for parents and guardians of incoming kindergarteners. It will be an opportunity for them to meet the staff, learn about the registration process, and find about kindergarten curriculum. The meeting will be held in the Alta Vista cafeteria and begins at 6:00 PM. You'll find a flyer with information about our Kindergarten Orientation meeting at the bottom of the newsletter. Please share information about this "adults only" meeting with any friends or neighbors with kindergarteners joining us for the 2020-2021 school year.
RESILIENCE - THE BIOLOGY OF STRESS AND THE SCIENCE OF HOPE
On Thursday, February 6th, Union School District will be hosting the Santa Clara County Public Health's screening of this important documentary on stress. Many staff members had a chance to view the film earlier this year and we felt it was important to share with the community. Please join your friends and neighbors at the Union School District Boardroom on February 6th. The doors open at 9:00 and the film will begin at 9:30. More information can be found on the attached flyer.
SCHOOL ILLNESS POLICY REMINDER
If a child is sent home with a temperature of 99.5 degrees or greater, the child must remain home until he/she is fever-free, without medication, for a minimum of 24 hours. If your child complains of not feeling well prior to leaving home, we would appreciate your cooperation by taking the time to check the complaint before sending him/her to school.
TARDY PROCEDURES
We ask that every effort be made to have children at the classroom door by the opening bell to minimize disruption of classroom instruction. OPEN ENROLLMENT IN UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Union School District Board of Trustees endorses a neighborhood school concept. The Board, however, recognizes that parents may wish to choose a school of attendance other than the assigned school. Therefore, the Board of Trustees believes that parental choice among the district’s public schools should be included as an integral feature of a well-rounded educational environment. At the bottom of the newsletter, you will find a flyer with more information about both intra and inter district transfers, including details about the applicable deadlines.
