KEEPING FAMILIES CONNECTED
Ice Cream Social
We started the school year off right with one of our most favorite PTA community events, the Ice Cream Social! It was very heartwarming to have this event return in person this year.
Huge shoutout to Straus Family Creamery for donating 15 GALLONS of ice cream for our event!
And a few thank you to key people who made this event possible: Amy Evans-Reber, for hosting the event and transporting huge containers of ice cream and ice to the school! To Ria Pullin for hosting the vegan ice cream station! And last but certainly not least, thank you so much to the teachers and staff who scooped 500 scoops of ice cream after a long school day!

It is with devastating sadness that the Pellkofer family would like to announce the tragic and sudden passing of our beloved Georgia Riley Pellkofer. As a child and a young adult, Georgia lived with the challenge of epilepsy, and a catastrophic seizure took her life much too soon. Georgia was twenty-five years old; an adored and cherished daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunt, niece, and cousin.
Georgia had a dream and planned to support children and young adults with epilepsy. To help bring her vision to reality, the family is retaining legal counsel to assist in establishing the Georgia Riley Charitable Trust. 100% of the funds donated via this site will be transferred to the charitable trust once formalized. The Pellkofer Family appreciates your help in seeding the trust by making a donation.
Our hearts are shattered to think of navigating a world without her now. Through this memorial fund, we can all pay it forward and shine Georgia's bright light on others.
Contributions to support her vision can be made to the Georgia Riley Pellkofer Memorial Fund at https://gofund.me/b9199891. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 26th at the Odd Fellows Lodge in Petaluma, CA.

The Mary Collins Charter Fund, a committee of the PTA, MCCF, kicked off its Annual Drive at Back to School Night!
The cost of charter programming is $300/per student per year and we need your contributions to keep our school thriving! As always, every donation, large and small, is important and appreciated.
You heard from our PTA representatives highlighting where the funds go: salaries for a Student Advisor (Gabriella), Garden Coordinators (Sarah, Heather), Accelerated Math (Karen), Physical Education Coach (Maddy), and Band Instructor (Trevor), as well as middle school electives (Literature Club, Drawing, Maker, Collaborative Band, Drama) and project based learning.
It’s easy to donate! Go to the PTA website https://mccvpta.membershiptoolkit.com/Our_PTA, login, scroll down, click on “Join Us!” and submit the Charter Fund Pledge Form 2022-2023. You may have to create an account first.

The 2022 Friends of Cherry Valley Library Fund Drive
Did you know that Friends of Cherry Valley Library is a non-profit organization created to support the Mary Collins School Library? Please help us raise money for our beloved library. We will use this year’s donations to help pay for part of our librarian’s salary, buy new print books to keep our collection up to date, buy supplies, keep our two color printers working and available for the school community, and help fund special programs like celebrate reading day, book swap, and our summer reading program. We no longer receive state or school district funding for library books or supplies. The donations received during the Friends of Cherry Valley Library fund drive are what help keep our library current and our librarian available to the school community for the entire school day. With your help, our library will stay current and ready to serve our school!
Here are a few donation options:
(1) Make a one-time, monthly, or quarterly cash donation.
(2) Purchase a subscription with Junior Library Guild. These subscriptions are customizable to your child's reading level or interest. A one year subscription costs $250 and provides our library with one newly released book per month (12 books per subscription). A bookplate with your family's name will be included on all of your subscription books. Bonus! Any donations made before August 26 will provide us with five additional free books (17 books per subscription). (Click here for more information on the Junior Library Guild program)
(3) Sign up with your employer in their matching gift program. This is a type of philanthropy in which companies financially match donations that their employees make to nonprofit organizations.
(4) Invite family and friends to donate too!

Family Google Calendar
One of the most useful communication tools our school provides, the Family Google Calendar. Almost all of the events for the school year have been loaded into already, including the school calendar (breaks, holidays, conference weeks, early release days, etc.) and school events including events hosted by the PTA and Friends of the Cherry Valley Library. Below are steps on how to layer on the Family Google calendar to the calendar on your iPhone or iPad (these were written for the latest iOS version; if you’re on a previous version, the steps may be different.)
- On your iPhone or iPad, open your calendar.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Calendars, and then Add Calendar.
- Choose Add Subscription Calendar.
- Paste this URL into the Subscription URL field: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/petk12.org_ucvpqlobv35p2kdlfe0f1btehg%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics
- Tap Subscribe.
- You can set options like the color of the calendar entries or enabling alerts on the next page. Once those are set, tap Add, then Tap Done.
The PTA curates a private Facebook group where we provide up to the minute info, PTA event info, and lively discussion! It’s a fantastic source of information and a place to ask questions, which there are usually a lot of at the beginning of the school year. The link to the page is below; make sure to ask the membership questions to ensure you’re added to the group.
