Hello Glennwood Families!
Glennwood is proud to announce that it will be sending 3, yes, that's right 3 students to the Metro RESA level competition for the Young GA Authors Writing Competition! Kindergartener, Charles D'Avis, first grader, Bella Kim, and second grader, Kathryn D'Avis won the City Schools of Decatur district level competition and are moving on to the next round. Wow! We couldn't be prouder of these young authors and their accomplishments! We extend a big congratulations to our 3 Glennwood winning authors! Will we see a Pulitzer Prize in their futures? Only time will tell!
It has been wonderful seeing the kids in person. I look forward to meeting all the students in person! The students that are in person are following our mitigation strategies amazingly well! However, there are a few with masks that appear to be too large. Just as a reminder, masks should cover from the nasal bridge to the chin with a snug fit at the nose. It is also important that the mask not have gaps on the sides. Masks that are too big have gaps that allow air flow under the mask and respiratory droplets to escape. Also, masks that are too big will often fall off the nose requiring frequent adjustment which means increased touching of masks and faces. There are a variety of masks to choose from. The best ones have a wire across the nasal area to help conform the mask to the nasal bridge and have adjustable ear/around the head straps for a better fit. And please make sure your child has a few extra masks in their backpack in case one becomes dirty while at school.
It is so hard to believe it is already March and Spring is right around the corner! Of course with the weather warming and the trees and flowers blooming, the pollen has started to affect some people. Symptoms of allergies can look many different ways, and with our stringent efforts to keep staff and students safe, you may be hearing from me. Our health guidelines require a call to parents for two or more low risk symptoms. Please continue to utilize the daily screener to assess if your child is well enough to attend school. Please contact me with any questions or concerns (ebarrington@csdecatur.net or 404-370-4435)

Staff Spotlight - Mr. Blase
I am the Glennwood School Counselor. I absolutely love my job and wouldn’t trade it for anything! This is my 5th year at Glennwood. Before becoming a School Counselor, I was a teacher in elementary school (Pre-K and Kindergarten). My #1 job is keeping kids happy, healthy, and safe. I teach classroom lessons on a variety of topics, run small groups with students, and work individually with students, teachers, and families. When we are back in-person, I would love to help run school-wide events like Socktober and The Great Kindness Challenge. I love to dress up, tell jokes, and have fun!
When I’m not in school, I enjoy spending time with my new baby, Little Marvin, taking runs and walks in the neighborhood, and eating good food!

Join the Talley DEI Committee to Transform Zoom into KaZoom
Join us on March 23 at 7 p.m. for this fun 45-minute virtual event. Students will trace the history of Southern music, tying together Country, Trap, Hip Hop, and R&B to antebellum music, ragtime, and jazz. This event includes the opportunity to make music with our professional singer/songwriter and playing kazoos in our group “jam band.”
The history of Southern music includes the telling of Black history in a fun and unexpected way -- including understanding cultural appropriation in music.
This virtual field trip is FREE and open to the first 250 families who register (a waitlist is also available). A kazoo will be provided to each family. The link will be provided prior to the event.
