Principal's Corner
Dearest Lake Forest Community High School Family,
It's Friday---and sometimes, we call it Fri-YAY! I hope that everyone has plans to get out and enjoy the beautiful fall weather this weekend!
The LFHS Foundation met last week, and we heard from Ms. Cat Catarazo about the fun, flexible furniture that the Foundation purchased for her classroom. See a picture of the ball chair below, and if you haven't donated to our Foundation and you are able to, here is a link for you to consider doing so. I can speak from experience when I write that they do amazing work for the LFHS community.
Our APT will be meeting next week, and I will host my coffee again, just before the meeting. The principal coffees are great opportunities for us to get to know and support each other. These are completely informal, and I think, a lot of fun.
I also wanted to take a moment to reach out to you about the many club sports that might appear to be directly affiliated with Lake Forest High School and/or the IHSA. While many of our students might participate in outside club sports and activities with our name, like hockey and sailing, it is important for our community to understand that these are not sports that are sanctioned or supervised by Lake Forest High School or its staff.
What this means is that students or community members who choose to participate or attend are attending a non-school related activity. The rules and consequences of that facility and organization apply. If there are concerns, community members will need to reach out to the organization. If there is an emergency at one of these events, local authorities should be notified.
Please know that we are proud of all of our students who participate in sports and other community-based activities. Our Scouts are well-rounded and well-equipped to lead and serve when they leave Lake Forest High School, and it is because of the many opportunities that our school and our community affords them.
Information about virtual Parent Teacher Conferences (October 20th) will be sent out early next week. Please feel free to have your student attend the PTC as well--it is awesome for them to see our partnership and shared commitment in keeping them THE main thing.
Finally, my message is only the beginning of the FanScout each week--this newsletter is a labor of love for many people, chock full of all things Scout, and I hope, something for everyone to enjoy--Keep reading for more!
Wishing ScoutNation all my best, all ways and always,
Erin

As we have done for several years, LFHS will continue to provide free ACT Test Prep sessions for our current Juniors. Our intent is to prepare our students for the 2/11/23 ACT for which LFHS will serve as a host site. Certainly, we recognize our students may be testing elsewhere as well. Our team has identified the following dates for test prep: 1/7/23, 1/14/23, 1/21/23, 1/28/23, 2/4/23
Sign up and further details about these sessions will be forthcoming in November. Please look for a direct email to Junior families from Dr. Alan Wahlert, Assistant Principal.

Legends and Fairy Tales - October 9, 2022
Featuring LFHS student, Aidan Watts, Soloist
4pm Concert
Gorton Community Center
400 E. Illinois Road
Lake Forest, IL 60045
The LFCO 22-23 season opens with musical depictions of legends and fairytales. Anatoli Liadov’s Trilogy of tone poems depict fantastical characters from Russian folklore. Baba Yaga and Kikimora both tell the stories of witches that hunt children, while The Enchanted Lake is a beautiful, atmospheric depiction of a moonlit lakeside scene, inhabited by fairies and wood sprites.
Becoming Medusa by Evanston-based composer Stacy Garrop explores the origin story of the famous snake-haired Medusa, and Tchaikovsky’s magical score to Swan Lake tells the tale of Siegfried and Odette despite the magical spell that the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart has cast upon Odette.
Aidan Watts
Violinist Aidan Watts, a student at Lake Forest High School, joins the LFCO to perform the first movement of Bruch’s Violin Concerto.
