Dear Copper Hill Families,
What a year it has been! We had a wonderful fall, a winter without snow, and then flipped our school to virtual learning on March 17, with 4 days notice! We are so very proud of our students and staff for all that we have accomplished together these last few months, and again, we could not have done it without your tremendous support at home! Thank you, families, for helping your child(ren) do their best as we all navigated through remote learning, working from home, physical distancing, and many other guidelines that we have been following. We would also like to send a heartfelt thank you to our PTO for their support of our staff and families throughout these unprecedented times - from the Rainbow Cougar Connection project to our Cookbooks and our 4th grade lawn signs, we thank you for all that you continued to do for our Copper Hill Community!
We would like to wish our fourth graders all the best as they move on to Reading-Fleming Intermediate School next year! They have put forth incredible effort to finish up the school year and we know that no matter what school looks like in the fall, our fourth graders will continue to show their “Cougar Spirit” and be their best and do their best as they become intermediate students! Remember, fourth graders, you will always be a part of Copper Hill, with your handprint on our hallway wall - go Cougars! Good luck!
As New Jersey begins to open and everyone is eager to enjoy the sunshine, please continue to be safe and follow all guidelines to protect your family. We wish you a wonderful summer, but more importantly, a healthy summer! Please continue to read updates from the District as we continue to navigate these times and plan appropriately for next school year.
Fondly,
Vanessa Ahmed
Principal

Vice Principal

IMPORTANT TECHNOLOGY INFORMATION!
Elementary students who were issued a device may keep the issued device for the summer months while schools remain closed, except for students who are moving out of district. Students who are withdrawing from our District’s schools before the fall re-opening should return their device and charger to the Board of Education office (adjacent to Reading-Fleming Intermediate School) on one of the following dates: Thursday, June 25, between 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. or Monday, June 29, between 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact the Supervisor of Technology, Ralph Losanno, at rlosanno@frsd.k12.nj.us Thank you!

A MESSAGE FROM OUR LIBRARIAN, MRS. LARCA....
One of my favorite things about summer is all of the extra time to READ! Over the last few weeks I have been sharing information with your children- about summer reading plans, ways to challenge themselves as readers and how to access books, especially when some of our more traditional avenues are unavailable. Please find the information I have shared with them, as well as the link to the District Summer Reading page, below:
Summer Reading Challenge Board - ideas for how to grow as readers
Accessing eBooks at the Hunterdon County Library - and how to get a digital library card if you don’t have one!
I wish you all a wonderful and relaxing summer full of stories - the ones that you share and the ones that you create.
Mrs. Larca

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
With the summer months upon us, this is just a friendly reminder from your school nurse to protect yourself this summer. Please adhere to social distancing guidelines as directed as we slowly begin to emerge from our self-isolation. Use sunscreen when outside in the sun and take care to avoid any injuries this summer by wearing protective gear (helmets, pads, etc.) when biking, skateboarding, roller blading, and like activities. Please contact our school nurse, Lisa Maslankowski, via email should your child sustain any injury this summer that may prohibit physical education or activity in September.
Please note that any student that had an outstanding medical excuse (concussion, fractures, etc.) as of March 13th will need a clearance note from their doctor/advanced practice nurse/physician assistant before the school year starts in September or they may not be able to participate in gym or recess. Parents of 4th graders, make sure you send your child's note to RFIS, NOT Copper Hill.
It is important that your child see their primary healthcare provider for well visits and updated vaccinations as necessary. Please inform our nurse of any new allergies or conditions that develop or if there are any changes in your child's health status.
Have a happy and healthy summer!
Mrs. Maslankowski
Mrs. Maslankowski

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM OUR GUIDANCE COUNSELOR, MRS. MOERI
This year has brought about a lot of changes and challenges for our students and families, and has increased the importance of checking in on social-emotional health. Summer is a great time to practice self-care (for students and parents alike!) to get back in touch with how we are feeling, and to regain a sense of calm and balance.
Summer is also a great time to socialize safely! During the summer, I will be holding 3 social groups over Zoom, similar to my Lunch Bunch groups that have run during the virtual school year. These groups will be an opportunity for students of all grade levels to see one another, check in, chat and play games. If you would like your child to participate, please email rmoeri@frsd.us and I will share the Zoom link with you. For security reasons, when joining the group, please be sure that the Zoom display name is your child’s name, or I will not be able to let them into the group. The dates of these groups are as follows, at 10:00 am:
Tuesday, July 7
Tuesday, July 28
Friday, August 21
Additionally, FRSD has partnered with High Focus Centers to provide a Summer Solstice Virtual Parent Series. They have already held one recorded training on “Managing Stress & Anxiety” that you can watch here. The next two free trainings will be “Quality Time as a Family,” and “Schools Restarting, Now What?” If you’re looking for social-emotional resources, mindfulness activities and breathing exercises, my Social-Emotional Resource Page will still be available and I’ll be updating it, along with the counselors’ Anti-Racism Resource Page for summer activities and reading suggestions for students.
If your child or your family requires urgent mental health intervention, please see our District Mental Health & Medical Resources list for phone numbers of outside resources, including Crisis Helplines, Domestic Violence Hotlines, Suicide Prevention Hopelines, and more.
Thank you for welcoming me to Copper Hill this year! You all have made me feel right at home, and I am so grateful. I have loved getting to know our students and families, and I look forward to continuing to serve our community as your school counselor!
-Mrs. Moeri
