Teen Insecurity

Description: Uncertainty or anxiety about oneself; lack of confidence

Statistics:

  • 54% of girls ages 13- 19 are dissatisfied with themselves and their body
  • 41% of guys in the same age bracket are also dissatisfied

Symptoms:

  • Low self- esteem
  • Lack of confidence
  • Unhappy with oneself

Solutions:

  • Support from family and friends
  • Psychologists help

Teen Pregnancy

Description: A teenage girl between the ages 13-19 who is pregnant

Statistics:

  • 34% of teens in the US will have at least 1 pregnancy before the age of 20
  • Close to 25% of teen mothers have a 2nd pregnancy within 2 years of the 1st birth
  • 80% of teen pregnancies are unplanned/ unintended

Solutions:

  • Abstinence
  • Birth Control

Teen Anxiety

Description: A feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically with compulsive behavior or panic attacks

Statistics:

  • 8% of teens ages 13-19 have an anxiety disorder
  • Anxiety disorders are most common of all mental illness and affect 25% of all teens and 30% of all teen girls
  • 1/4 of teens will struggle with anxiety at some point in their life

Symptoms:

  • Worries excessively about many things
  • OCD
  • Phobias
  • Social Anxiety
  • Panic Attacks

Solutions:

  • Psychiatrist
  • Counselor
  • Medications
  • Being Prepared

Teen Depression

Description: Feelings of severe despondency and dejection, sadness, hopelessness, and despair

Statistics:


  • 10-15% of teens experience depression
  • 20% will experience before the age of 20
  • 5% of teens suffer from major depression
  • Leads to suicide which is the 2nd leading cause of death in teens


Symptoms:


  • Sadness
  • Irritability
  • Loss of interest
  • Withdrawal from social activities
  • Disrupted Sleep (Fatigue)
  • Appetite Loss
  • Thoughts of Suicide


Solutions:


  • Medication
  • Counselors
  • Psychiatrist

Teen Trust Issues

Description: People who tend to be too trusting and/ or not trusting enough of others
Statistics:
  • 36% of teens suffer from trust issues
  • 12% of teens ages 13-19 blame past experiences on their trust issues
Symptoms:
  • Non-trusting
  • Push people away
  • Bad relationships
Solutions:
  • Talking with a counselor
  • Having an event to help you trust
