February Family Homework Project

Presidents: We will be beginning our unit on Presidents of the United States. The February Family Project will be to create a poster, report, and prepare a presentation about a president. Please help your kindergartner choose from one of these presidents to research: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, or our current president, Barack Obama. (These presidents are the focus of our Kindergarten Core Knowledge Curriculum.) Please feel free to assist your child, but let him/her take the lead. Please purchase a poster board for your child to display his/her report and pictures. Each poster will need to have the following information.

· Name of the President

· Birth date and place

· 3-5 facts about him

· Briefly explain what life was like when he was growing up.

· Pictures or drawings of the president

The posters/reports are due March 4. Your child will be responsible for a short presentation of his/her president. Please help your child practice and prepare for the presentation. Then on Friday, March 7th (2:15-3:15), our class will be having a Presidents Wax Museum. Your child may dress up and act like his/her president during our class Wax Museum and present his/her presentation. Have fun learning!

Show and Tell Fridays

February’s Show and Tell Topics

  • A drawing of someone you care about.
  • A favorite Valentine card you received in the past or this year.
  • An item or picture representing an American national symbol (American flag, Statue of Liberty, bald eagle, The White House…).

  • The item/event shared must be related to the monthly show and tell topics. It must fit in your child’s backpack (if it doesn’t, you may take a picture of the item.)
  • Every child must share one Friday per month.
  • Each child will be getting a score for his/her speaking and listening skills.
  • Every child must fill out a “show and tell” form prior to sharing. Please help your child by filling out the form together.
