Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 16th March 2018
dragon egg hatches
Read this report from Eva in year 1:
Year One could not believe their eyes! When they came to their classroom they were surprised when they looked at the dragon egg, it had hatched! The dragon came out on Mother's Day and left green footprints from inside the classroom to outside. Have you seen any dragon flying about? Have you seen any burned houses? Have you seen anything strange?
ready, steady.....bake
Year 4 have started their preparation for the exhibition next week by baking. They have already created a guide book of cities around the UK with help from the publishers Lonely Planet. It should be coming back from the printers any day soon! In their research, about the cities, they found out about traditional foods and on Thursday they had the opportunity to make some. At the exhibition you will be able to taste yummy Scottish Shortbread from Edinburgh and Soda bread from Belfast. This could not have happened with out the brilliant help of Mrs Rudsdale and Miss Gore so thank you so much for giving up your time.
Meeting Pen Pals in Year 5
On Wednesday Year 5 visited their partner school St Peters in Leeds. Before the Christmas holidays, the children were each given a pen pal and have been sending letters to each other. They were so excited to finally meet each other and they had a wonderful time together. They began the day by going on a scavenger hunt around school with their pen pals. After sharing lunch together they made each other Easter cards and wrote lovely messages inside them. We are really looking forward to them coming to our school to visit us in the summer term.

health and wellbeing
Next week we are having a focus on health and wellbeing. We are giving the children the opportunity to try new sports and sharing information with them and our families about healthy living.
On Monday children will have the opportunity to try fencing, on Tuesday there will be skipping workshops (ropes will be on sale after school) and on Wednesday we will be running karate workshops.
It is bound to be a fun, informative and energetic week.
It is not coincidence that next week is Sport Relief. To raise funds the children have been asked to get sponsors for their Daily Mile next Thursday. Look out for their sponsor form.
We will count how many laps they complete in 15 minutes and we hope that they can be sponsored for taking part.
