ACSA BOARD ELECTIONS

ELECTION TIME IS HERE

THIS FRIDAY...

We welcome all to join ACSA as we elect our board for the 2015 - 2016 academic year. Africa, the Caribbean, America or Asia, no matter where you're from, we invite all people to consider bidding for a position. Please nominate yourself BY FILLING THIS OUT.


We will first have elections where each candidate will give a short speech on why they are THE candidate for the position. Speeches should be a maximum of 3 minutes. We are looking for passionate individuals who are willing to take on the tasks listed below in the board descriptions!


If you cannot make the election this Friday, please email benlusamba@uchicago.edu with your photo and a short speech. RSVP! Deadline to apply is Friday at 3pm!

AVAILABLE BOARD POSITIONS & QUALIFICATIONS

CO PRESIDENT (2 POSITIONS AVAILABLE)

  • Oversees and ensures fulfillment of board member responsibilities
  • Serves as primary liaison to faculty, and student organizations
  • Runs and organizes board meetings and activities
  • Emails agenda before meetings
  • Creates ties to African communities in Chicago
  • Supports chosen ACSA charity
  • Assists treasurer in fundraising efforts
  • Creates and Maintain Membership base for ACSA
  • Time commitment is from 2-4 hours weekly.

TREASURER

  • Upkeep detailed record of all financial transactions on Blueprint
  • Updates board regularly on ACSA’s financial state
  • Writes and presents budget proposals for the school year in coordination with the Board
  • Develops and executes fundraising ideas
  • Assists in applying for university grants and funding
  • Organizes events/projects to raise funds
  • Time commitment is from 1-3 hours weekly

SECRETARY

  • Acts as a historian by recording meeting minutes
  • Handles forms and documents and sends out doodle polls
  • Manages contracts and organizes Google Drive
  • Sends out Smore newsletters and other emails
  • Checks ACSA emails and forwards board relevant emails
  • Maintains social media presence by documenting events and finding photographers & videographers and uploading social media on Facebook and YouTube (working with Publicity Chair)
  • Communicates with social media on campus (The Maroon) and in Chicago in order to maintain a social media presence
  • Updates Facebook page by posting weekly
  • Time commitment is from 2-4 hours weekly.

PUBLICITY CHAIR

  • Creates publicity for events by creating flyers
  • Works with the entire board to allocate publicity tasks
  • Makes Facebook events and tweets to advertise events
  • Updates the official website with events or announcements
  • Updates Facebook page with events or announcements, working with Secretary
  • Updates African & Caribbean associations in other Chicagoland universities with ACSA events
  • Sends out emails to listhost to inform members of events.
  • Informs members of non-ACSA events relevant to ACSA members
  • Time commitment 2-4 hours depending on the week.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH LIASON

  • Maintains Relationships with other student African associations in Chicagoland and other Caribbean associations as well
  • Creates and maintains Alumni connections throughout the year
  • Maintains a database of ACSA alumni.
  • Time commitment is 1-2 hours weekly

EVENT COORDINATOR

  • Organizes logistics for event in terms of the following: Food, Location, Timing, Audience sizing, Setup, Takedown
  • Finds and arranges for special guest speakers for various events
  • Manages events and ACSA activities in a proactive manner
  • Serves as head of culture show committee and planning. This involves developing possible concepts for show, recruiting committee members, and laying infrastructure of the culture show.
  • Time commitment is 2-3 hours weekly

FIRST-YEAR REPRESENTATIVE

*Must be a first-year to bid
  • Incorporates more first-year involvement in ACSA .
  • Increases freshman membership in the college.
  • Heads of first year-recruitment efforts i.e. first-Years are the future of the organization.
  • Leads outreach with board members with prospective students.
  • Positions will be filled by 5th week of Fall Quarter 2015
  • Time commitment is 1-2 hours weekly

ADVISER (3 POSITIONS AVAILABLE)

*Must have served on previous ACSA board.

  • Engages in goal setting for ACSA
  • Organizes election process
  • Organizes board mixers
  • Supports, advises and directs board members by serving as an information source
  • Must be willing to help out in any and every way
  • Time commitment is 1-3 hours weekly
